in electro music, the bass usually sounds like the pitch is being moved up and down between different notes, instead of the bass actually hitting the notes. how are electro producers able to create this kind of sound? it seems more complicated than just automating the pitch wheel up and down.
this is kind of difficult to phrase, so if you need me to reword it I can try. I would post a sample, but you can hear this in pretty much any benny benassi song, like satisfaction.
i will make something for you, reason is great for this but any other synth will do.
basically once you have your desired sound route mod lfo to pitch set the amount you want, do not use a large amount range as it will cover to many octaves. so you really only want to cover 1 to 2 octaves, so this value in reason for the amount control would be 12 or 24 out of a possiable 127 the lfo will only affect that range of pitch.

legato / note slide anyone?
Isn't that way easier, you can enter the exact notes you want and only have to automate the slide time.

Portamento is a fixed tool and I dunno that it will sounds good for the bass all the time..
That depends on the instrument used . A lot of VST's support glide time/portamento time, which defines how long it takes to slide to the other note. Really easy.
