is there anyway to have it so that the master volume is the same level as channel 1/2 .. i like mixing in my headphones and I hate the fact that I have to increase the volume on the master and sometimes forget to lower it and almost blow my ear drums out anytime i switch back to my channel 1/2s

i don't get what you're doing? there's two separate knobs; a master knob, and the headphone volume knob (right around the area where the headphone cue buttons are) there's no reason for either of these to be turned up to any levels that would be almost blowing out your ear drums.

what i mean is that when i switch to master on the headphone cue i have to turn it up ALOT (headphone knob) in order to hear it.. then if I switch back to channel 1/2 its loud as fuck and have to turn it back down again using the headphone knob..

so i'm assuming then that your master volume is turned down really low? why don't you raise the master volume a bit to have the volumes match that of the chan 1/2 cues?

it's not turned down really low.. my master (top right) is about halfway.. my headphone cue is about middleish.. when I press MASTER on the mixer with channel 1/2 off its almost impossible to hear it unless I turn it up.. and when I turn it up sometimes I forget to turn it down and when I switch back to channel 1/2 its super loud.

I have the DJM-400 as well, and I know what you're talking about. The best alternative route I've found thus far is to just cue up with the master channel 'off' in the headphones and do it by channel 1 & 2. Switch back to master once you're ready to bring the track in...

External monitors are also a way to alleviate this issue.

well he's right. the only possible explanation i can think of is the either your master is too low, or your gains are too high (or a combination of the both) and because of it you have to raise the headphone levels to hear the master cue. why don't you just fiddle with all the volumes/gains until they're all pretty much even?

I have the DJM400 as well and don't have this problem. My master level is set between 2 and 3 o'clock.

When you have a song playing are the LED indicators of the master and channels at similar levels? If not you should adjust your master level so that it is.
