Can anyone recommend a good MMO, I am interested in trying one, I was looking at a few, Hellgate London, Tabula Rasa, Guild Wars and WOW. What do you recommend?

WoW is pretty much the only thing worth spending money on at the moment, as far as MMO's go. Sad, but true.

The only one I like right now is Eve.

Eve online. They have a 14 day free trial thing going on right now too.

After you've wet your feet with WoW, graduate to the next level with Eve Online. The best part? I can have three accounts and not spend any real money.

Or just skip wow unless you're 12 years old and obsessed with cartoon trolls and elves.

I'm playing Eve pretty damn religiously now.
The key is to get into a good corp that's in an active alliance and get to 0.0 space as soon as you feel comfortable. If you're just playing by yourself it will get boring, fast but when you're raging a galaxy spanning war (as I am currently) it's fucking intense.
I logged on a few days back to just change skills and saw the intel channel blink. Checked it and 40 BoBs (our enemies) had gone deep into our space so I quickly joined up with the home defense fleet. Luckily they left but it was exciting just getting ready for a possible fleet battle let alone when there actually is one.
As has been said, it's pretty easy to make enough in game money to buy game cards and basically play the game for free. I've only been playing for a few weeks now but already at 100 million ISK which is half of what you need to buy a 30 day game card so it's well worth it. You just have to get lucky when ratting (taking out NPC ships) and get something worth heaps. Later on you can make billions a month on industry, research, trading, etc etc.
