I recently downgraded to XP Pro and wanted to start with a clean slate on all grounds.

Any advice on the best CD/DVD burner software out there?

I've always had success with Roxio. Others swear by Nero 6 or 7, can't recall which.

Nero 6 for everything else. The later versions aren't as good.

older versions of nero are very stable. the new ones are just bulky and shitty.

if you're looking for a nice open-source alternative, check out "Infra Recorder". Works really nice.
