Internet providers will be monitoring users who access illegal DL sites..be it software/music/dvd etc. It will be a case of 3 strikes and you are out, cut-off from your broad-band connection Not sure if this only in the U.K. but it is coming to fruition soon. Bastardos.

I haven't heard about this in the U.S. yet, but I know it is something certain people have been pushing for a long time now.

They keep trying to push it in the US but it's illegal for ISPs to monitor their clients.

I've had my internet shut down a few times for excessive transfer rates. It just requires a phone call to pull it back up, but I guess nervous every time.

I guess once "they" figure out how to do it without completely violating everyone's privacy, "they"'ll do it. Except the "they" who will push for these laws are never going to be the ISP's themselves, who get the biggest share of profit from people downloading illegal stuff.
In a way I fear the internet will be a much more limited world in a couple decades, with everything becoming paid for. Sure it's wrong to download copyrighted stuff and all, but it's the way to learn a lot... I mean, the amount of music I've discovered, the amount of culture I've gathered from watching series and movies, the amount of coding knowledge I've got from e-books, all from illegal ways. I'd be seriously dumber without this chaotic free internet. The coming generations may not benefit from this anymore.
