Georgia opposition figure dies in London

How odd ... yet another person who has been in contact with Berezovki has died. Berezovski was heavily involved with both dead persons before they died. Can we all point fingers at Putin and say that Russian special forces are behind this? And ignore the fact that this is yet another Georgian opposition leader who has died under Saakashvilli's rule? Zurab Zhvania was another big opposition leader who in 2005 allegedly died of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning. Strangely enough, both stories have received minimal coverage in Western media (its much more fun to portray the evil Russians)

TBILISI, Georgia -- Badri Patarkatsishvili, a Georgian opposition figure and billionaire businessman who was accused of plotting to overthrow the ex-Soviet republic's government, has died of a heart attack, his spokesman said Wednesday. He was 52.
Patarkatsishvili died overnight in his house outside London, Guga Kvitaishvili said.

Patarkatsishvili was seen as a driving force behind anti-government protests in Georgia in November. He ran against presidential incumbent Mikhail Saakashvili in a snap election in January, getting about 7 percent of the vote. Opposition groups have alleged the vote was rigged.

He was under investigation at home on charges of plotting to overthrow the government - accusations he denied, despite acknowledging offering large sums of money to police to side with protesters. The protests were violently broken up by police.

Patarkatsishvili told The Associated Press in December that he had obtained a tape recording of an official in Georgia's Interior Ministry asking a Chechen warlord to murder him while he was London.

"I believe they want to kill me," Patarkatsishvili told the AP by telephone. His claim could not be verified.

In September, former Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili accused Saakashvili of trying to encourage him to kill Patarkatsishvili in 2005, although he later retracted the charge.

Patarkatsishvili left Georgia in November and has spent time in Britain and Israel.

Russian tycoon Boris Berezovsky, a longtime business associate of Patarkatsishvili's who also lives in London, said relatives told him Patarkatsishvili died around 11 p.m. Tuesday of a heart attack.

Berezovsky, reached by telephone from Moscow, said that Patarkatsishvili had not been ill but had complained about his heart when they met Tuesday. "I saw him yesterday," Berezovsky said.

He said he had gone to the Georgian's home in Surrey county after learning of his death but that police were handling the matter and were not letting people in.

Surrey Police confirmed that they were called Tuesday night to respond to the death of Patarkatsishvili at a home in Leatherhead, about 20 miles south of London. An autopsy was to be performed Wednesday.

"As with all unexpected deaths it is being treated as suspicious," said a police spokeswoman, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with policy.

Opposition leader Giorgy Khaindrava said that "nothing can be ruled out" until after the cause of Patarkatsishvili's death is confirmed.

"He was a healthy man. Let's wait for the results of medical examination to be clear about what has happened," Khaindrava said.

Patarkatsishvili, who lived in Russia between 1993 and 2001, was also wanted by Russian authorities on charges of stealing cars from Russia's largest car maker AvtoVAZ in the 1990s and plotting an escape from police custody in 2001 for a business associate who was under fraud investigation.

Patarkatsishvili is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Eh?! This story was done to death in the British media when the story broke!

And besides, the reason Litvinenko got so much coverage is because the post-mortem showed he had been poisoned with a radioactive material, Patarkatsishvili's post-mortem showed he had died from a heart attack (the coroner said his health condition meant he could drop dead at any time). So not really much to get excited about here is there?

Patarkatsishvilli fled Georgia for his own safety from the current Georgian leadership.

Pardon me then, but the media on this side of the Atlantic was cold on this story. Plus, how can you explain me the death of Zurab Zhvania, another prominent Georgian opposition leader? Or his subordinate, Chelaschwili, a day later in a "suicide".

There's a reason why the agencies used a rare and expensive radioactive material to kill Litvinenko - political motivations to gather public support against the evil Russians - and it worked. British people were scared to believe that the radiation attack could affect any of them. Thousands of people called and/or showed up to test if they had any radiation on them. Airplanes, hotels, and other areas were told to have radiation traces, which scared British public even more. Radiation from allegedly the same source was then even discovered as far as in Germany! Of course nothing can compare to the Litvinenko story probably ever again.

And now we have the same case developing around Okruashvilli, who is fearing for his life and fled to Germany, after making a series of allegations against Saakashvilli's government. Then he was arrested, and appeared on public TV denouncing his claims. Later he was released in the largest bail in Georgian history and immediately fled to Germany, and claimed that he reversed the story because the Georgian police pressured him to do so. Wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Okruashvilli died under natural circumstances not far from now ...

Well those two deaths are highly suspicious (altho I should point out they happened three years ago!)

However, they both happened in Georgia, this happened in the UK and British coroners stated after the post-mortem that Patarkatsishvili died of a heart attack - which of course I should imagine can be induced, but he was also described as likely to die any second

Who knows...?

Yeah ... one thing for sure, that a heart attack is much different from radiation poisoning - much harder to prove that it was murder. So I'll just give up trying to draw comparisons and connections to Berezovski, and other Georgian opposition leaders deaths.

There are too many connections in this case. Yet another of Berezovki's former business partners are dead. Berezovski must be a very cursed man - Patarkatsishvilli (what a tough name to remember) dies and Berezovski was one of the last people to see them before something happened to them.

Interesting to point out that they both were long-time business partners and make their billions the same way pretty much, during the same era and in Russia too ... the difference is that they just robbed different companies. The only notable difference was that Berezovski supports the Saakashvilli regime, and his dead buddy doesnt.
