[Soundtrack & Ambient]No Sunrise Without You

I am still on hiatus. Working a full-time job and studying on-line is sometimes a tough gig.

This is written to my fiance'. Her birthday is also this weekend. She is not the EDM type, but I enjoyed writing this in spite of the fact that I am biting myself for my inadequate keyboarding ability (only part of it was manually performed).

It has 3 parts: orchestral, piano-solo; ambient...

Wow man, I wasn't expecting it to be such a sophisticated composition... You've clearly been classically trained! How long did this take to write?

Beautiful stuff, v v impressive -- the oboe especially is a real tearjerker . Our comments aren't the important thing though, give it to your girl she's gonna love it

Much appreciation!

The only classical training I ever had was a saxophone student in my grade-school days long ago for two years. Otherwise, I just love to hear/imagine things and toy with them -- If I could do it all over again, I'd be classically trained in the piano.

It took me about four night-sessions to write and one mid-day session. I started with a melody I created on the piano, and created numerous variations and other melodies based on it -- some I ended up not using, others were created on the fly.

Piano hell yes ... Wish I'd taken my mum's advice about learning piano when I was younger, instead I went with my dad's advice about taking sports... bup-booouww, lol. So now I just have to rely on translating what I'm imagining by ear, takes a bit longer but I think one does ok if you've listened to a lot of music in your time and you develop a sense for what sounds good.

I guess those two years of sax were enough to bring out your inner composer dude!

Music is nice, however the library is really bad.
I suggest you to grab some decent strings, this ones sounds very flat.

You have the overall idea, however it feels empty, above all when the Oboe and Strings exchange.

There is a lack of low end, you need to layer Cellos and Contrabasses to fill the emptyness, some Pizzicatos would help alot too.

Nice ideas, melodies, but the composition is a bit empty and basic, we just hear Strings, Oboes, Piano and some glissandos here and there, there is much much you can do with the harmony u have in the strings. Try to layer the harmony you are using with more instruments, Bass - Cellos&Contrabasses and Bassons, Middle - Violas, Horns and Clarinets.
I dont know if you can play with the attack and release with the library you are using, but that would add alot of more realism, however, you can automatize the velocitie in the strings, oboes, etc, to add an human feeling, same with the vibrato in the pitch.

Second section is really nice, the pads and the piano, they did the job for me very good, liked them.

Piano is the best from the overall tune.

Looking forward to listen to it with a better library and more instruments on it .

Dude - make sure you have protection when you play it for her - you're gonna need it!

Seriously, this is a very nice piece of work. Unlike Wind&Spirit's comments, I really like the space in this piece and don't feel that it is empty at all, just solemn. And, the choice of samples is really a matter of personal preference. However, I do agree that the first part could use a little more expression in the strings. They sounded a little jerky and somewhat robotic in some places compared to the remaining parts. But this is really a minor issue to me and the piece overall is very pleasant to listen to. Nice work!

BTW, what did you use for your piano sound?
