best way to break a CRT monitor?

the only way i can get my old, crappy crt monitor at work replaced is if it breaks down. what are some efficient, quiet ways that i can break mine without making it look obvious that i purposely broke it?

bend some pins and claim that you were trying to readjust the connection because it wasn't working correctly and you noticed that the pins were bent. One or two should do the trick.

Definitely do not try shorting the monitor out internally by dropping things in the slot. Sure, it'll probably work but if you set your office on fire I'm sure they won't give you a new monitor.

Best thing is use a magnet. But any IT guy (Aka me) would see straight through that and give you another crappy CRT to be an asshole.

Bending the pins of the VGA connector is a good idea. They can break easily when you try to bend them back into place. What you should do is rearrange your desk, move your computer around, etc. Bend one of the pins all the way down. Don't try to fix it yourself though, have someone from IT attempt doing it. If you bend it enough, bending it back will be fairly impossible to do without breaking the pin.

It's not uncommon for a VGA cable pin to get bent either so it's believable. Play dumb and say you were wondering why it took so much force to reconnect.

Look at the link above. Go for one of the Red, Green or Blue pins. The monitor will still work but the color won't be there.
