So this past saturday was earth hour. from 8 - 9 pm everyone voluntarily turned their lights off for one hour to measure the impact it had on teh electricity grid.
Ironically enough the result was * drum roll * the entire grid for Orleans (an ottawa subburb) failed at 9:01 PM as everyone in teh damn city turned their lights back on simultaneously.
anyone else participate?

Yeah, I’d like to know what horrible, scarring incident in your childhood turned you into such an ignorant, intellectual-hating philistine?

While it was a great idea i think it would be better if they asked everyone to go without lights for 1 hour at some point during hte day as opposed to everyone doing it at the same time. power grids cant handle instantaneous load spikes like that, it tends to break things

I would have had I not a million things to do that hour...
I was actually looking forward to participating too.
I always turn off all things I'm not using anyways so I don't feel bad.

lol, reminds me of a scenario in the original SimCity game where everyone flushed their toilet simultaneously after the superbowl and the nuclear reactor exploded.
