Has anyone ever taken these exams? What are your thoughts on the difficulty and content?

Passing the NASA Psych test is easier then CFA

The only person I do know who has taken it only worked for 7 years and then became wealthy enough to live off his investments.

my sister passed all three exams.
She is super smart though, graduated from Schulick.
She studied pretty hard on all 3 test and passed them all on the first time.

But that's awesome though! Very rare for people to pass all 3 exams on their first try...


I know some people who've dedicated 6 months straight to study for the first one and still failed...and I considered them to be really smart.

Ya they say you need 250 to 400 hours of study for each exam as long as you stay on top of it though it shouldn't be a problem. I'm gonna be taking the prep course through U of T. The prof is amazing who runs it.

This is probably heavily dependent on your finance/accounting/business background, if you have a b.com you probably wouldnt have to study this much for the first exam (from what I hear)

However if you are starting from nothing it could be a huge pain in the ass

Oh ya, have a B.com, CSC, CFP. I guess I will find out, I usually over study anyways but gotta wait until next June anyways.

I've heard from a few people who have taken it that level 1 is the hardest. I've also heard that studying is one thing....but getting through 6 hours of exam in one day is a whole other ball park.

I'm studying for my level 1 right now. Are you registered for an exam? Wait til they send you the box of materials - it's enormous. I'm writing in June.

It isn't *necessarily* true that you don't have to study as much if you have a business degree - I have an HBA and am almost done my MBA and at the moment, I'm still finding it a lot of work. That said, my education is and always has been case based, open book style, so memorization of this magnitude is something I haven't done for a long time. However, I would say I have a leg up on someone who has no knowledge of level 1 concepts whatsoever.

Just curious, why are you considering it? Career change? Job requirement?
