Need a new mixer....

Trying to keep it under $1300. I have been doing my research but I wanted to get feedback...let me know if you have used one of the finalist.

Zxone 42

vs.

Pioneer DJM 700

vs.

Pioneer DJM 800 ( is it worth the extra cash for the mix in key crap?)

I have the DJM 600 right now but would like to get away from using my UC33 for Ableton. Let me know if you have any feedback.....

It's all personal preference.
Since I had a DJM 400, I opted for the 800.
I suggest going to a music shop to try out the feel of both the xone and pioneer.

What about some other things you're looking for in a mixer?
Things like:
Number of channels
Onboard effects
MIDI control

I'm guessing you'd want something with 4 channels and maybe MIDI?

If you can wait a few months, the Ecler Evo4 is supposed to be released around then. Last I heard, there wasn't word on pricing, but it may be within your budget.

But between the DJM-700 and the XONE:42, I would tentatively say I would get the 42. The 700 just seems like an afterthought to the 800, and there is a bit of a 'sour taste' of the 800 being bumped up in price when the 700 was released (at the original 800 price point)*.

Oh, and I currently have an Ecler Nuo4. I originally bought it for the MIDI and 4 channel capability, with the low price as icing. There is an update, the Nuo4 2.0, which should be out soon if not already. It doesn't have MIDI, but has channel VU meters. The price should be slightly higher than the original Nuo4 but only due to the weak US dollar.

* Feel free to correct me if this is wrong. I just recall the DJM-800 being available for around 1300 or 1400 before the 700 came out.

Pioneers are great mixers, but unless you prefer having effects,
get the Xone~!

I am trying to get to a set up with 2 CDJ's and Ableton.
So I want something with 4 channels.

Right now it is a pain to run 2 cdj's, my apple into a UC33 and then run the UC33 into the mixer.

I am planning to go check out the 800 this weekend at a store. I am leaning towards it b/c on nights when i am just using cd's I would like some affects and the 800 is only about $250 more.

Seems to me the only difference between the 800 and the 700 is this...

Effects
Extensive dialogue with some of the world’s top DJs and sound engineers provided the catalyst to create new, intuitive techniques to effect the perfect mix, resulting in ‘sound colour effects’ - a whole new style of DJ mixing. In music terms, if the DJ adjusts a track in the key of C by +3%, you are no longer in the key of C, and now between C and D. This makes it impossible to perform a perfect harmonic mix, unless harmonic tuning is applied. Harmonic tuning takes whatever key the source audio is in and adjusts the pitch until the key reaches a standard note. World class DJs currently spend hours learning the keys of their music and re-mastering their library to be in ‘perfect pitch’ - this innovation makes it easier to deliver smooth mixes everytime. The DJM-800 also offers ‘filter’, ‘sweep’ and ‘crush’ effects through a highpass/lowpass filter, notch filter and bit crusher effect for all line channels.

I think the 700 has the 'roll' effect (and maybe reverse roll?) which the 800 doesn't have. Also, the effects tap button on the 700 doesn't light up/pulse like the 800.

There are a few videos that show the differences between the two.

i have the djm-700 and i love it. the effects filter and roll sampler definitely lets you get real creative it you know how to use it. its a great mixer. i've used xone mixers before too, namely the xone 92 and i didn't like it at all. bad cueing system imo and no fx. i'd go for the 700. don't think the 800 is really worth the extra cash. the 700 has all you need.

the roll sampler combined with the effects filter on the 700 can let you do some really creative remixing and reediting. just started learning how to use it, you can make intros from scratch and remix with bits and pieces. really nice stuff. haven't really found a use for the uproll reverse roll and downroll yet though.

Xone:42 hands down....though my opinion is most certainly biased! The layout of the mixer is completely uncluttered, the knobs are nice and chunky and it supports efx units that can be tied into the already amazing VCF controls on the Xone.

Add to that the ability to hookup your mixer directly to your laptop for a multitude of purposes and you've got a winner!
