Tiesto & Armin - Instantly Selling Out Multiple Shows in Melb

Hi All,

As most from Melb would be aware...

Tiesto sold out concerts within hours, resulting in 4 shows in total, also selling out.

Now armin seems have done that same, I think the early birds were sold out in 2hrs or less and the remainder shortly after prompting a second show. And who knows, maybe a third.

At a guess, this means that we have approx 5-7 thousand per show for Tiesto so a total of 20000+. And we have armin, potentially selling out 2 shows with similar quantity of fans going.

Being predominately a trance fan I think this is great. But it raises questions and some confusion in my mind. IMO the melbourne club dance scene is dominated mainly by house and PHD style trance (tho I havent been out in years so I could be wrong).

So...

Why arent there any successful trance clubs in melbourne (that I know of)?
Is there an untapped gold mine just waiting to be found if it can be advertised and promoted properly (or differently)?
Does melbourne not have any talented DJ's in this style? I would think that we do (ie. Mike Nichol - ASOT TOTW - Hello.)
Surely the demand is there?
Or are melbournians only interested in the odd trance specticals and not a regular club nights?
Any thoughts?

because 99% of the people buying tickets bought tickets to the show (not the artist); all they care about is getting dressed up for the event- we 1% are fucking creaming for it, that's it-- i don't see pharmacy selling multiple shows in the same fashion (easily having as good, or better acts than tiesto or armin individually)

the reason they're succesful IS the marketting and promotion: these are among the most commercial djs in the world-- eh, it's silly-- i doubt anyone whose going even knows who armin or tiesto is, except they're "good"

there is a MASSIVE difference between the event armin only, or tiesto selling out, and trance's popularity is my point--
there are local trance events. they are relatively unpopular- people don't even know what trance is- and with tiesto playing tocadisco i think it might stay that way...

There is not a strong enough group of punters that would go to regular trance clubs in melbourne. So there has to be diversity to bring several music policy's together to work as one. but then again, what do you call trance music, do you call it OMG ARMIN HANDS UP trance or do you call it a state of mind? thats where the big split lies and thats what seems to have been lost with the evolution of the more commercial style of trance productions.

another problem is, trance is a dirty word to the commoner, scares them away.
people hear trance and think hard trance, pills and glow sticks and fully sick d00f d00f omgz.
it'd probably be more successful noted as just "dance" music, sadly. (if it is uplifting trance/etc).

Easiest way to figure out if they are n00bs or not is if you ask 'em about the classics of Tiesto or Armin

Ask 'em to name you one of Gouryella's famous tracks Or one of Tiesto's classic tunes from his Magik or In Search of Sunrise series.
