Calzaghe vs Hopkins

I can't hardly wait for this fight, especially after all the shit talking. That was some crazy racist shit when Hopkins told Joe that he'd never let a white boy beat him. Joe is superior to Hopkins, who's time is really running out at the age of 43. Joe is simply the best fighter to come out of Europe for over a decade, he's seriously the full package. Quick handspeed, head and body movement with a granite chin. I'm sure Hopkins will fight dirty as usual to even stand a chance against his undefeated opponent. This fight would've been real hard to call if Hopkins was the same age as his opponent.

HBO promos.

Hopkins is such a fucking ignorant twat...predicitons?

yea it should be a good scrap,im up for joe all the way he'll be too quick for hopkins , but the fact hes never fought outside of wales & europe is kinda worryin and boxers from the uk dont have a great record of winning in the u.s but tonight it shall remain to be seen i personally hope joe punches the head of hopkins, joe to win in the 11th round 33/1 with paddy power get on it now!

Umm... why watch that when Serra v. St-Pierre 2 is going on at the same time?

MMA > Boxing.

MMA - guys dry humping & clinching through the majority of fight.
Boxing - action packed excitement in most fights.

MMA has it's moments with some of their explosive fighters, but most fights I've seen have almost put me to sleep.

Boxing > K-1 > the rest of the MMA organizations.

Do you realize that Calzaghe and Hopkins were hugging for about 60% of the fight tonight? If you really think boxing is more "action packed" than MMA, I don't know what to tell you.

Yeah I've seen the fight and that's because that's the kind of fighter Hopkins is. Have you seen all the recent boxing fights with Cotto, Pavlik, Pacquiao, Morales, Berrera. I haven't missed most boxing fights for over a decade, you can't compare boxing to MMA. I've seen all the ppv UFC , Pride and other MMA cage fights for the past 4 years to notice that almost every single one mostly involved lame & boring grappling on the floor and about 20% of the actual match being toe to toe.

You sound like a fucking idiot, don't try to compare a bunch of out of shape fags who run out of energy after 3 to five rounds to fucking boxers who have gone 12 rounds with vicious head and body blows all the way to the end. You can take the very best "brawlers" the MMA has ever had and you can't even come close to comparing them to lets see..

Hagler, Hearns, Tyson, Camacho & Most the legendary Mexican fighters, Marciano, Sugar ray Robinson, Ali, Frazier... I can go on and on. Please dude, I've seen so many great boxing fight from the old days to today and rarely been dissapointed. MMA has bored the shit out of me on so many occasions.

enjoyed the fight, Hopkins was dirty, and he was warned before the fight that Calzaghe can fight just as dirty, and he did.
Looking forward to the Ray Jones jr fight now, should be more open, with less headbutting

Normally I'd say chill with the Boxing v. MMA debate since we're hijacking a boxing thread, but there is so little talk of it, I may as well add my thoughts :

MMA would be exciting if they can shoot fireballs at each other

I follow boxing only because of Pacquiao. I can't really get into MMA, but I like how ESPN and some of the other sports media is starting to give serious coverage to the different UFCs etc.

Boxing > MMA

only thing that interest me atm about MMA is the Miami guy Kimbo Slice. Been great following his rise from youtube fame to MMA, but All his pro fights have been less than a minute haha. I heard they were going to start showing MMA over there on CBS I think? Slice is going to be like the main event.

MMA fights bore me though, A great boxing match pwns MMA easily. Im not a fan of seeing guys grappling and wrestlin on the floor.

MMA just seems like the cool thing to do/watch at the moment and people who want to see somethin different in terms of a fighting sport are getting behind it.
I have a few friends who went to the last Kimbo Slice fight in Miami vs Tank Abbott I think...they said the crowd was really into it, but they didnt think the action was all that good that entire night.

Boxing has way to much history and theres been so many great fights, that I think bashing the sport is stupid. Its one thing if the heavyweight division hasnt been good in a decade, but theres been a lot of great fights in the lower weight divisions .

I only caught a replay of the last 4 rounds of the Hopkins Calzaghe match , I started watching when Calzaghe hit Hopkins with a low blow and Hopkins turned around and bent over in pain and Calzaghe started dry humping him lol...I was like is going on here. Rest of the fight was pretty cool though

also...Miguel Cotto is a bad ass, cant wait to see him fight Margarito

I was at my friends house that night with about 12 other guys, all about 26 years old. We all used to be into boxing and we were flipping back and forth between UFC and HBO. And, really, even the lower card fights were more exciting on UFC. So we got to talking about how much better UFC is than boxing these days, and only one person disagreed. And he really just said they're about equal.

I've seen all these fighters that you say are great. But I just can't get into it anymore. Even the lightweights hug. It's just very, very boring to me.

Boxing is OK, but I like MMA because it is a lot closer to a real street fight without head butting, eye gouging, biting, etc... And I love street fighting.
