automating release in Ableton

Hey guys

Does anyone know how I can automate the release on synths in Ableton like Sylenth1 or Z3ta+.....

On most synths it doesn;t come up as a parameter to automate so I'm not sure how to do it or if it can be done.

Yeah, ableton limits to 127 parameters or something so if the release isn't in the first 127 then it wont show up. One work around is find out what midi cc number the release on the synth is and automate it using the corresponding number on the midi list.

Alternatively, assign a knob on your controller to control the release. Record and twiddle the knob. You will see the recorded automation on the midi channel number that the knob is outputting to and you can go from there.

Hope this makes sense!

If these synths have more than 128 parameters then I don't think it can be done.

Ableton users are crying out for this to be addressed. I think you can use a util from Energy-XT to get around this.

Hope this helps.

that piece of hardware should automap controls to Zeta+, look in the configuration settings of the SL.

Failing that, just look in the SL manual, its all there on how to map controls manually, but if you have to do that then there is something wrong with your SL or the Automapping feature

Top right of your screen there is a little keyboard thing. Click that, click on whatever you want to assing (release) then move your knob.

I've only used abelton for mixing cds so there is a good chance I'm wrong.

Yes read the manual

But top right is midi learn button that turns screen blue. Then click parameter you want to control (in this case the release knob) then twiddle whatever knob on your controller you want to use. You will see a litlle white box appear on the release knob on screen with the midi channel and number of the knob. Click again on midi learn button at top right and you're good to go.
