I'm sure i will attract some criticism for saying this and i really don't mean to offend anyone but personally, 95% of live acts bore the brains out of me.

I just think that when you look at a 60 or 90 minute period a well put togther set from a dj playing a range of different producer's music is far more interesting/entertaining than 60-90 minutes of one dudes material that almost all sounds the same and often isn't very good.

My comment is not in any way a stab at the talent involved to produce/play live vs Djing so please don't take it as that. Im talking purely as a punter and what i like to see.

I dunno, I could be the only that thinks that way but live acts don't do it for me im afriad.

i don't mean internationally i mean locally. some of the best music i have ever heard is from a live act. a good live act.

just wondering why producers (especially in generic trance) don't ever sway into these fields. its much better to lock down a lineup that you can control the sound over if you know what i mean and you can be creative in that sense too when you design events. and it opens so many doors for creativity and the uniqueness of someones sound.

I'm kinda of that opinion too Scott and i think it comes down to what you want out of a 'set' of music. I much rather seeing a DJ as they have the arsenal (ie lots of music from different people, places, genres even) to be spontaneous and really feed off a crowd, whereas i find that with live acts you generally know what you're going to get because it's a lot more pre-planned (and before anyone says anything, yes I know there is/can be lots of improvisation but it's still only generally variations on a theme).

Having said that I would have to say that seeing someone like Matthew Jonson at Earthcore a few years ago would have to be in my top maybe 3 stes i've ever heard & Robert Babicz last year wasn't far behind that either. I guess i don't subscribe to the 'Live is holier than thou' attitude that some people do, but when that rare artist/talent comes along then it's absolutely amazing

too true! im not of the opinion DJ's dont cut the mustard but i like the variation across an event or party with a good mix of both.

depends on ur point of view i guess but for me all the uniquness or creativity in the world is no good if their music isn't that good or diverse to begin with.

of course you would separate the shit stuff from the good stuff. wouldn't book someone just for the sake that they play live, they have to be able to do it well.
