well... the original idea was to isolate specific sounds in a track (during a mix-in/out) and then play with them.
using our good old filter/res/eqs combo, we manage to partly isolate them but in my opinion i feel we re pretty limited.
1. gate. lets put all the attack/release stuff aside a minute.
I think it would be pretty hot if when i mix-in a track, im able to tell my mixer not to let the sound pass unless it goes up a certain level. in other words...have this minimal track going on..pretty much just a beat but with some trippy percs.... i HP it so i remove the bass, put up a lil res, apply some EQs on it, mainly remove a lil high and boost up the mids.... but still....whenever the perc isnt playing, u could still hear an ugly filtered, EQed bassline. there goes the gate..... VOLUME OFF.... no need to touch ur volume fader....anymore.
2. LFO. LFO on the volume.... no need to explain i guesss
lfo on the pan would work if you manage to isolate ur sounds way enough so you wont hear that noisy bassline :P
but yea, basically its been a while ive been thinking about ways to isolate as much as possible sounds i like in my track, since im getting more and more into minimal tracks.
and also, i was looking for ways to do it in an analog way.
