Try sidechaining them. Add reverb and then a bitcrusher (Reverb BEFORE the bitcrusher!). This trick is best for chunky mid-frequency percussion, not hats.

Yeah you can get lots of cool results on percussions when you mix up the order of your effects.

When you say side chain the percussion, do you mean side chain all your percs with kick as the source? Do you mind explaning a bit more detail cause I like the sound of that?
