repost: First attempt

Posted this in the wrong subforum. rough setup of instrument tracks and drum mix. Would like to know your feedback on instrument mix and drum/bassline mix. Track is far from finished, but it gives you a rough idea of what the song will head to.

I do always enjoy hearing the results of a new person at the mixer.

Here is my impression:
1. The drum tracks sound like mid-90s.
2. The bassline and synth combo sounds a tad thin and muddy.
3. The raspy saw sounds a little underprocessed.
4. The pad combo towards the end was a smart move, although some more depth and stereo widening would really make it stand out more.
5. There is no outro.

It is an honest first attempt. If this is the first track you have ever written with your sequencer, I salute you. It is a steady anthem and has the idea of becoming some sort of stadium trancer. Not a terrible track, especially for a new person. I can't wait to hear more from you.

the kick us from the Halion1 House1 kit :-), through a Duende channel strip lowcut <25hz, about 3db on 120hz and 1.3 compression on 0db

I don't want the kick to become too hardcore, so i guess it will be xperimenting with layering and futher EQ'ing / gating.

I agree with all your feedback, this mix is not finished, it does not have a song "structure" yet:-) no fills / frills / variations on the 16 beats, no outro :-) channel volumes are still in the rough, synths need to be Eq'ed to get their own herz space in the mix etc etc...

Also note tat the whole mix is Cubase 4 VSTi's + Pro53 patches only :-)

Reverb is Lexicon MX200 via spdif, but needs more tuning (reverb is too muddy in the mid, which chokes the mix) But i strugle finding " lighter" alternatives which stil sound lush, most reverb plugins (at least the standard ones sound harsh) anyway, i just provided feedback on my own track :-)

But looking beyond all of that, when done right you think it has potential?

cos ur not done mixing and everything ill just comment musically, try to keep a melody focus on only one or two elements and the rest will back them up, it sounds a little unfocused and all over the place, that all the rest i don't need to comment u stated the problematic stuff pretty well yourself... also ultrafunk:fx reverb is nice try it out...

I will look for UF, to see if it can deliver what i'm looking for.
The biggest challenge i've always had is that once i've got like 20-25 tracks with all kinds of layers and variations you want them all to stand out, but they clearly can't all have attention at the same time. As read in several other topics, sometimes less is more.
