"mixed in key" software... whats everyone think?

So I'm pretty new at dj'ing and i just got this "mixed in key" program that I'm sure everyone's probably heard of(for those of you who haven't it tells you the key of all the songs in your music library so you can easily find songs to mix that won't key clash). My friend who has been dj'ing a long time says "it eliminates the need for musical creativity" and I can see his point, but for a newbie like me i see it as a big help. Whats everyone's opinion on it?

It's a good help, but it's not 100% accurate.

Helpful for general mixing, but don't let it dominate your selection.

imo if you cant key the songs yourself then the program is limited.

dont listen to all the haters though, harmonic mixing is win. just learn to do it yourself, its quicker, easier and more seductive. once you start down the 'mixed in key' software path, forever will it dominate your destiny. consume you it will, as it did obiwan's apprentice.

Rapid evo is free and better because theres an easily acessable keyboard as well.

Obviously if you just have to put some song next than you do it anyway regardless of what the program says, but its useful for if you have like 5 or so tracks you want to put in and your not sure of what order.

Rapid evolution is better and like the guy a couple of posts up said it has a built in keyboard so you can check the keys by ear. I know I get more songs wrong when I use my ear alone then when I have a reference to help me.

exactly...

It's all about marketing in case of mixedinkey, those guys must be really clever at it...they claim to have developed the first software to do this, while Mixmeister and Rapid Evo were both able to do it years ago...

let's hear your stance then

mine is a combination of the last two- it's a nifty piece of software but dj's should learn to key it by ear, and you'll never see me use it.

I think mixed in key is practical, but I can't stand the assertions made on their site and by the people who developed it. By and large I disagree with the way they perceive DJing.
