When you first consider the idea & listen to the track it may not seem that difficult.
But loop 1 bar in Ferry Corstens "Beautiful" tempo 135bpm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Rd6u0un9PE

I had a 2 bar loop repeating for 4 hours, 1 bar Ferry - 1 bar mine JUST to emulate the clap sound & STILL couldn't do it. On the youtube vid it sounds simple but if you have the original song and open it in your sequencer than play with your own claps you'll see what I'm saying.

It sounds like a snare possibly layered with a clap, w/e the case I used synths w/noise, different combinations of claps & snare samples, claps alone, fx, and still couldn't come close. I've also been going crazy with some tracks that have these bubbling snare type rolls.

I won't get into that because you won't understand how its different unless I specifically cut out a sample. But just see what I mean with the clap for now.
And what the hell are those crazy arp like fills in the back?
Again, untill you load a decent version into your DAW you won't be able to see what I'm saying but some of the sounds Ferry uses in this tracks are incredible.

Only because I tried that under MANY different setttings and if you're attune to sounds you'll see it not even close.

Again the youtube vid is a terrible example for comparison. You can barely seperate the fact its a snare and clap till you get a better version. (not talking to 'you' specifically).

it is a snare layered with a clap though. you can hear the snare without the clap layer when he does the "bubbling snare roll". I mentioned because you said you tried using claps alone, which will get you nowhere.

I absolutely agree its a snare and clap combo.

I guess the hardest part for people would be for me to load samples of all the different arrangments I tried and how far off they sound.

It REALLY sounds incredibly simple untill you try to emulate the sound... than you realize the problem with some sample packs.

I'll update if I get close, I just don't see it happening at this point.

Ya i'm not saying it's gonna be simple hehe.

Ferry has always impressed me with his snares.

People were copying his claps, so obviously he had to do something clever with it.

This is probably heavily compressed during mastering and it can be hard to replicate the sound, because all the elements go so well together.. maybe you need a similar kickdrum ?

In general:

channel 1: snare (electronic808 type, not acoustic, with decent decay) > volume about 1/3rd of combined)
Channel 2: Clap (electronic 808 basic kit type clap (volume about 2/3rd of combined)
1. put both on 1 subgroup
2. on 1st insert slot of bus: long "darkroom" reverb with about 40% wet mix
3. on 2nd insert slot of bus: a gate with drum type preset (short release)
4. play with the threshold to cut abrupt or gentle.
5. EQ and compress by taste.

This, depending on taste, can give you anything from a Phil C to Ferry C clap.

Bottom line: it's all in the mix

(less political: you will not find a top producers signature clap, by browsing, ready made for you to be inserted in FLStudio )

as someone sayd it has alot to do with the kick too i think. the kick is superwarm, and the snare too. he have some nice gear that man i assume.

Sounds like a perfectly ordinary clap to me, with some reverb and compression. It might be layered with a snare.

What makes the biggest difference is the kick that it's paired with. People don't realize how much the timbre and timing of the kick affect the snare/clap or any other "on-beat" drums.

Plus 1, and you're never gonna get 2 sounds sounding identical. Even if you had the same snare and clap samples. It's just not gonna happen. You'll drive yourself mad dude, chill. I am sure in those 4 hours you could make a way cooler and more original snare sound anyways.
