Serato released beta ASIO drivers for Windows a while ago. So you could use Traktor or whatnot with it as long as you are running Windows.
Do you have Serato but are not using it with Turntables or CD players? That is what it sounds like.

Ok...
You CAN use the Serato SL-1 with Traktor Studio using the ASIO drivers. Fine.
HOWEVER... if you want to use timecode control in Traktor Studio, you MUST also have Traktor Scratch installed on the same machine (which means you have to have purchased and activated it).
In addition, Traktor Studio/Scratch will ONLY allow timecode control if you are using either the Audio 8 DJ (the Native Instruments interface) OR a Traktor Scratch certified DJ mixer, like the Korg Zero 4/8 or the Ecler EVO 5.
And yes, you need Traktor timecode vinyl/cd's. Oddly enough, I accidentally put Serato timecode CD's in my CDJ's once and Traktor played my track, but unpredictably and at half speed. I was like "WTF is going on?" for a few minutes...

I dont need a sync button for house/trance/euro/techno. I use my full Serato package for that. But I do need a sync button for hip-hop and other pop music shit. I am having huge problems mixing for mainstream crowds using mainsteam music with songs that are like 4-5 minutes long with NO room for error or maneuvre.
And as for the equipment, with mainstream I am not necessarily relying on the timed vinyl. I can just ignore the turntables for that session and play directly onto the mixer and into the speakers, to please the folks. I just want to save the headache when playing for those crowds during those moments. I get irritated too easily and disoriented when spinning rap/pop/etc shit, but thats what people listen to nowadays. Thats the only way in some cases for me to be able to play some underground electronic music as well, either for "warmup" or at the end when people are drunk/high enough. I dont know enough people in my area to party to the kinds of music that I listen to (EDM pre-2006).
I do have the SL-1200 MK2's, so I do use real vinyl and while my mixing skills are still weak, I can throw a decent set for my house parties. I typically spin at friends/acquantances houses for small crowds but its fun. But I dont intend on ever becoming a big DJ or play for huge crowds. I dont want to be famous and I doubt this will be possible as a real job or career. This is just a hobby and my way of meeting people and having fun. And earn respect and learn skills.

EDIT: Thanks for all the help from everyone who recommended something or gave insights, it really helped, I will get on them and try it out once my laptop comes in tomorrow from warranty services.
