Production and cancer?

i`have bought oxygen 61 MIDI keyboard and was kinda disappointed to`read a sticker on it: This product contains lead and other chemicals that cause cancer. So, what's the overall percentage ratio of my developing cancer?

Pretty much none, unless you crack it open and start swimming in the parts.

this obsession with lead and problems it causes is the biggest shite ever. eveything with soldering in it that was made before 2004 had lead in the solder. lead solder offers the best electrical and mechanical join.

The same as when you don't produce music - 1 in 3.

I found this article regarding labels on products that was kind of funny, too...

"Dorigo Jones is the author of the forthcoming book 'Remove Child Before Folding: The 101 Stupidest, Silliest and Wackiest Warning Labels Ever.' The book's title derives from a warning label on a baby stroller.

It's just one of many warnings submitted to his annual Wacky Warning Label Contest. This year, first prize went to a heat gun that removes paint by blasting it with air heated to 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The warning label said: 'Do not use the heat gun as a hair dryer.'

Second prize went to the warning label on a kitchen knife: 'Never try to catch a falling knife.'

Third prize went to a cocktail napkin decorated with a map of the seacoast of Hilton Head, S.C., and a warning: 'Caution: Not to be used for navigation.'

Among the honorable mentions was the warning on a bottle of dried bobcat urine used to keep rodents away from garden plants: 'Not for human consumption.'"

I work in a car battery plant, and work in lead every day.(minus weekends) The level of lead in my blood is way, way higher than yours and I am perfectly healthy.(minus my nasty smoking habit)I will probably develop cancer from smoking before I ever do from lead. I wouldn't worry if I were you. Me, on the other hand, I got something to worry about.

the funniest thing about warning labels is that the fact they have it there means someone was stupid enough to do it. LOL I'm just thinking of that heat gun and someone using it as a hair dryer lolol!

I wonder what the other chemicals are? Benzine or something like that, maybe. Why don't they list those too? I wouldn't worry about it. Just don't start licking the keyboard or anything. I think the concern is that fine particles from electronic devices get in the air and we breathe them in. This is true of course, but if you start worrying about stuff like that, you'll drive yourself nuts.

True, if there's a warning label, then someone was stupid enough to do it, and probably won a lawsuit. Some guy in the states thought the cruise control on his RV would steer the vehicle down the road. He set the cruise control, left the driver's seat and went to the back. The RV ran off the road and crashed, of course, and he sued and won.

If you're worried about lead, drink lots of beer. Alcohol cleans your bloodstream of lead and other heavy metals, washes it all away. I've heard doctors say this. So drink up!

It's all about this:

http://www.rohsguide.com/rohs-faq.htm

Basically metals and chemicals used in the manufacturing process have now been banned, but in certain circumstances they are obliged to put a warning sticker on the unit to tell you if it still has hazardous materials. For instance lead in solder as mentioned before, and cyanide is commonly used in electroplating and anodizing of metals.

Paint up until recently contained lead, which meant if you were sanding it and particles became airborne, you could be breathing in lead. So if you were to desolder something, there is a small chance some vapour containing lead could be released. So that you don't sue them after contracting cancer by desoldering the every solder in the keyboard and every other product they make in a confined space with no air source, they put a warning on it.

Yeah, maybe just don't do lines off your keyboard?
I think its just to warn you not to open it up, since theres no doubt that lead causes severe consequences in young children. Didn't know it caused cancer though...

Reading the thread title I thought this was going to be a tribute to dead/cancer-stricken producers.
