How do I get these effects...

I'm trying to figure out what effects are on these sounds below... I've got two samples from Markus Schulz's Amsterdam album. One is "Meet Me in Kyoto" (Tydi's Mainroom Mix) and the other is "Mr White" (Ruben de Ronde's remix). Love these songs.

As I'm trying to do more, rather, all, of creating sounds and effects from scratch rather than slapping on presets, I am often stumped in what is being used to create certain effects. It'd help if someone could give me an idea as to what you hear with these...

Sample 1: http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/7...3614/synth1.wav

I'm listening to the lead. I kind of hear an arpeggio, then opening up the release, then LFO as it sustains? Could be way off, and even if not, how do you blend an arpeggio in like that? Just the release?

Sample 2: http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/7...3614/synth2.wav

Also the lead, which appears to be part of a layered bass (?), then just adjusting h/l pass filters? How do I get it to "open up"? Wrong terminology, but hopefully it makes sense.

Any help appreciated - thanks.

hi,

the first sample, i recreated a very primitive version:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/kqx5gq

if this is the sound u are speakn of, then it's quite simple. just lay down 16th notes of the note, and then a saw shaped LFO>LPF FREQ set to sync@1bar(or w/e u wish) - and then automate the release as u said. ez squeezy lemon peezy, and the 2nd one, yeah automate the LPF to rise and lower in freq.

hope diz helpz a bitz.

That is exactly what I was looking for. Going to mess around with this a bit - thank you very much!

so i believe synth1 is just a few squares detuned with some PWM on the 2nd osc(could have saw as 2nd osc)... i have a bit of unision on mine, the env asdr is no sustain, short decay(at first) and opens up decay & release as it goes. cut off seems to stay near the same, filter asdr changes a bit, as the attack gets longer.

here's my 5min attempt:

synth2 is just a saw with some bit crushing/distortin/over drive on it

edit: oh someone beat me to it :P

I often make my own fx's and so on and i found the best way off achiving all aspects of effects is to layer and disstort, layer and disstort chop and cut use tb's synth's blend and mold untill you get want you want.hope this helps if not tuff shit ha ha.

here is what i hear in the second sample, loads of sidechain to a muted kick\whatever, a bass sound with some decay and low sustain at the begining (probably also enveloping the filter) and then sustain is automated toward full strengh with the filter going up which seems to be an LP but i hear in the middle some HP fiddeling.. it does make it sound complicated but i believe it really isn't so

a cool other way to do this is to link you velocity to the sustain control and the filter control then you can change both from just one parameter...
