FAO Mountain Bike Lovers (eg Ygrene & Whiskers)...

How much do you guys know about mongoose or charge brand bikes? Seen a couple today but i know nothing about the charge brand and mongoose i'd always associated with BMXs and cheap tacky mountain bikes. Quite impressed by a couple what i've seen but i know nowt about reputation etc

Mongoose are generally shit, for the price. They used to be big in the BMX scene but yeah... "Charge", afaik, is not the best brand either.

Look into Specialised. I've had two (one BMX, one MTB) and have not been let down thus far.

...It also sounds cool to noobs. Eg.

"Oh wow! What kind of bike is that?"
"It's... SPECIALISED"

cheers backwards energy and Axer

and lol at specialized. They make good bikes but there isn't one to totally suit me at the price i'm looking at. The ones I like are a tad more expensive for that brand, although buying some 2008 once the 2009 ones come out is an option...

Brand wise, I really want a rocky mountain, anything with fox & full xt is awesome but they're like £1000-1400 and I wanna spend £600-900 max Trek & Kona are also expensive for what you get component wise...

Mongoose used to be the shiznack back in grade school. I agree, I don't think they are one of the better brands.

And I also agree, Specialized = best uber bike for the price. But now i ahve my eyes set on them Yeti bikes. So sexy.

man, i'd agree with echosystem.

well, you can ride a mountain bike on the streets, something that has suspensions on both wheels, the frame would be a little heavier than regular bikes.

if you're riding a ramp and doin tricks and stunts then go with BMX, has a compact light weight body and you can custom them.

if you're going a long way then you can get racing bikes. very light and really thin tires.

ermmm, any brand with gears and suspensions and you're sawa sawa

i'm pretty sure that mother****** sold to for over $400 to US

i've get a new bike soon, it get's me places in times of need

don't forget a helmet thou!

I'm pretty well versed in actual riding, just a bit out of date technology wise, been a good 8 years since I rode seriously. Most of what im planning is XC type stuff so a hardtail is all I need

elohel, mongoose is a walmart bike. they do make a high-end model though or were working on one, something like that. charge, i've never heard of.

if you want xt, go for xt. i had deore lx components before biky was stolen and now i'm on alivio, and what a world of difference! xt's are light as hell, will last a hell of a long time, and will function like a swiss clock.

Kona makes some sweet ass-bikes, but they're pricey. quality, you know.

the mongoose which has a better spec is

Frame: Flat top tube technologies all mountain 6061 alloy -
Fork: Rock Shox 302 U-turn 85-130mm travel with turn key lock out external rebound and preload adjust -
Gears: Shimano Deore front and Shimano XT rear derailleurs -
Shifters: Shimano Deore rapid fire with dual release -
Chainset: Shimano Deore 44/32/22 Hollowtech 5 - Brakes: Hayes Stroker Ryde -
Wheels: WTB speed disc all mountain rims built on Shimano Deore hubs - Tyres: Kenda Nevegal -
Handlebars: Easton EA30 -
Stem: Easton EA30 -
Saddle: WTB Pure V Sport -
Seatpost: M-logo 31.6mm -
Pedals: Crank Brothers Acid clipless

not bad comparatively. Bloke I spoke to today said that it performs well although the GT Avalanches are good quality wise, and apparently the people who own mongoose now own gt too and they've always been very reputable
