Record a Ping Pong ball, modulate at 100HZ and filter all the highs, and you get a Ping Pong Bass... ?

Like a armin bassline he seems to get it to go left to right with reverb or some form of delay...but hey man that is a good idea for PING PONG Bass lol

Depends on the bassline structure.

I find that reverb/delay combo defintely works well on 1/8 bass notes, but as I recently discovered, with anything more intense (such as a rolling 1/16 bassline) you're MUCH better off using an arp and one long continuous MIDI note.

Playing around with the arp sequence and then adjusting the note lengths (on the actual arp) has proved very effective for me, when combined with a slight touch of reverb.

Ping pong delay is very useful for less melodic basslines. It can be a bit tricky when the bassline rolls up and down as often the delay effect may overlap and key-clash with another note.

Again, depends on the style you are writing

Good points there, it really will depend on what style you are making, alot of EDM wants centred Bass/Sub otherwise it gets messy. Try stereo seperation, i'd normally only use it on melodies though because of the effect it has.

From what I can hear, effectively the MAIN notes that stand out are (x being a bass note)

|xxox|xoxo|xxox|xoxo|

But there is a hell of a lot more going on there in between and due to so much percussion, I am having trouble working out what exactly ha ha... I just quickly tried the 1/8 ping-pong delay on the above and it sounded pretty bouncy, just not quite as good, so I have a feeling the arpeggiator played the main part in its complexity...

One thing I found REALLY useful trying to work out some of the complex psy basslines was taking a clean short sample of the track (a part with little or no percussion) and slowing it down in a sound editor to a VERY SLOW speed (like 40 BPM or less). It is amazing what you may sometimes discover at that tempo... try it he he
