Has this ever happened to anyone else? This has happened to me twice now. Its an exciting moment to hear your track played on a radio show but that feeling can quickly turn to shock when your following along with your track and suddenly it plays not as you created it.

In the 2 instances where this has happened to me, sections were removed so the song still played normally, but they edited the track to make it shorter. Was that the only intention or is there more?

I'm wondering how you all would perceive something like this happening to you. A simple edit for the sake of time maybe to fit more tracks in the show? Or creative control where the show's creators put their own take on it by removing something they did not like?

What do you all think?

I think it depends on how it was done tbh.

Badly and I'd be like, erm yeah thanks.

Done well I'd be impressed and slightly jelous someone did something to improve my track, but I'd try to take note of what it is they changed and analyse that section to see maybe if it was dragging on too long, or didnt work or whatever.

Well, this really is something that you have to accept will happen if you are making dance music, which is mostly going to be sought out by DJs.

This is why I like when someone puts "blahblahblah edit" on the tracklist, so that you at least know something has been changed (albeit not enough to label it as a "remix").

When one of my tracks was played on the radio they timestretched it to make it shorter...so it ended up choppy as hell. Wasn't impressed but what can you do?

Yes more than likey this is what was done in both cases as nothing new was added to the track, it was simply edited. The most recent one for example had my track starting off like normal and then when the 1st breakdown was to happen, instead the 2nd breakdown happened so they edited out the middle part of the track entirely.

It's perfectly normal for a DJ to edit the track in anyway he desires to make it fit better into his set, there is nothing to be upset about.

Indeed, I do most of my radio-sets in Ableton and in almost every set I do little edits in tracks to improve the flow and progression of the set; that includes sometimes taking out certain parts.
I can understand that an artist might be upset about his/her work being altered in a way they did not intend but in the end it's the DJ who is making the set and it's the DJ's taste that ultimately decides how a track gets played.

TBH like has been metioned before , if its bad then complain if good .... etc

It would just be the radio producer making sure everything fitted into the time scale they have.Like they have 1 hour but 1 hour 15 mins of music to play , but if they remove songs they fall short.
And as you described , it sounds a pre recorded radio show , so the more edited it would be.

And on the subject of radio shows , would BBC radio 1 on a friday night not class a tune which is 5 mins long and never progresses beyond kicks and percs as a banging tune which is going to rock dancefloors.
Death to progressive minimal.

Not upset at all, its just this is new territory for me and was wondering about it. From the responses it seems pretty common and normal and nothing to take in a negative manner.

Just supply them with a radio edit, and 9 times out of 10, it's exactly as you described - the 1st breakdown becuase the main 2nd one. At least them you get creative control over it.
