Legality of Edits

Hey all, just wondering if I take a vocal mix of a song and an instrumental mix of the same song, and use certain phrases of each at certain together to basically eliminate the vocals at certain parts, could i claim this as "DJ Name Edit" in my tracklist?

I should think so, i agree about contacting the artist though.

Is it really worth putting credits on a track for doing slight rearrangements? Or else you might as well label a track as your edit just for beatmatching it?
