Another solid tutorial. I used to waste a lot of time with warping tracks when I was starting out and this would have been incredibly useful to me.
If you use any "global" effects with sends/returns in your tracks I wouldn't mind seeing a tutorial for that as it's something I want to start utilizing.

AN additional note on this one, be sure to always check the middle of the track as well and possibly set a few warp markers there as well. Sometimes certain tracks will have slight waverings in tempo, although this is less of a problem in the digital age. For example, I noticed that Prydz Proper Education has some strange tempo variations in the middle of the track. I usually set 3 to 4 warp markers per track, usually around the breaks, just to be sure nothing gets out of time. |
I found the same thing with Babicz purple dance. Not sure what causes it...

Might not be related, but the web was full with vinyl rips a few years ago, and those could be a bit dodgy due to tiny errors in the vinyls or just a badly rotating turntable. These days, when most dance music is purchased digitally or on CD, that problem shouldn't occur...
A good rule of thumb is that if Ableton only puts down one yellow marker when it auto warps, the tracks have a steady tempo, you only need to do the adjustments I showed in this tutorial, no additional yellow markers should be needed.

Not sure that that was the problem in this case, not really sure what it was... But I got it sorted anyway, just took a bit of work.

I don't really find that to be true. ableton always puts too many markers, especially in tracks with long breakdowns. usually I just let ableton make a guess at the tempo, check first beat, 16th bar, final bar. and that does it. usually the BPM will be a whole number, very rarely it'll have a decimal place, so thats another good way to check 9/10 times... It can be bad though when the BPM is detected perfectly, but the actual start marker is an 8th off... Hard to notice and makes for a trainwreck of hideous proportions.
