Codec calls, FMV's, and skippable cut scenes total time: 9 hours, 50 minutes.
Total Gameplay Time: 15 hours, 30 minutes.
This was a good game, and I'm glad I finally played through it because the story and production values do warrant all that cut scene time, but this was definitely the first game I've ever played (and that includes MGS1/2/3) where it genuinely felt like gameplay was totally secondary to telling the story.
I loved the controls, diversity of locations, most of the story, and a good majority of the gameplay segments.
The boss fights were fucking lame and cheap - easy to die until you figure out each boss' exploit, then impossible to lose.
Other than that, yeah - great "interactive movie", OK game.
Sounds more like this should've been a movie. These sorts of games usually just annoy me. Either I'm annoyed because I want to play a damn game and characters won't shut up, or I'm annoyed because I'm trying to watch a damn movie but this game keeps popping up asking me to do things.

I do have to give them a lot of credit for holding my attention through all the cut scenes (well, for the most part).
And it definitely was basically a love letter to MGS fans, which I think was kind of cool for a company to do - the effort put into tying it all together was outstanding.

Either I'm an idiot, or you confused the two percentages in the thread title.
But anyways, I STILL have yet to even see this game in action. I know many who own it, but I've never sat down with it myself. Most everybody praises the game, but admits that the amount of movie-watching is distracting and annoying at times.
Still, at least the game was well-made, and you have to give Kojima and Konami credit for that.

I mean - it's approximate, but still, 10 hours out of just over 15 total for cutscenes?
I replayed Metal Gear Solid over the break, still probably one of my favorite games ever. I remember getting the demo of it (was just the first part when you enter that hanger after being underwater) way back when and playing it over and over and over.
I have yet to play 4 but I saw a friend playing through the first couple hours and it was real heavy on the cutscenes. I actually still need to play through 3 now that I think about it...

This probably was the best game ever made in history.
I downloaded all the cut scenes in 720p (10 gigs worth) just becasue they were so good.
Seriously though, it's fucking wicked. Theres a reason the critics pretty much full-carded this across the board. It's wicked.
This is true gaming imo, without going into a very long post or review.
Only reason why I got the ps3 (on top of the bluray)

Yeah I really doubt that. No doubt the game is epic, but I'd rather have much more GAMEplay in a GAME than the stats Rob threw up.

when you play it you'll understand sir.
i never played the 1-3 and the game made perfect sense to me, and if i did play all the other snake games it would be even better but still, the plot in this was good and satisfying.
rob: your top 10 is probably a trash bin anyways so thats cool, enjoy those retro 1971 video games chief.
The way the cut scenes blend into the gameplay. Brilliant (Intro + Ship Fight + ect). The depth and character developments through cut scenes, amazing. The whole B&B corps is like a fucking novel on it's own AND complemented with cut scenes, great as fuck. The boss fights were a terrifying and then complemented with a side order of 10 minute cut scene story. Wicked. On top of this it drove a great plot, fuck man I thought was playing and quality level of shawshank redemption.
THAT is only the cut scene aspect of the game.
lets not get started on the two mixable dynamics of game play (full stealth or full rambo) and the whole drebin component is well done.
you guys don't appreciate the brilliance and mind of Kojima.

Actually a bit closer to 66%
I'm definitely the idiot. I misread your post...when you wrote 15 hours of 'total gameplay', I thought you were referring to just the gameplay itself, when really you were referring to the ENTIRE game experience, including cut scenes. Your percentages are fine.
And, just out of curiosity, sorry to derail the thread subject, but what IS your top 10, RJT? Maybe that'll show up r5a...?
