the news sensationalizes a tiny, narrow study because of the inflammatory conclusions.

there could be many other factors that influenced the results, other than 'racism'...but that wouldn't make news.

did they control for someone making *any* remark to see if people would choose to work with that person (i.e. 'familiarity' vs. racism...someone speaking out PERIOD might make them more 'attractive' as a partner).

just one of many other variables. anyway...the media is no doubt distorting it. the prof and others recognize that's the results merely a suggest further research paths, with larger samples, a more controls in the design of the study, etc.

I blame genetics for my rasism.

The only thing truly remarkable about this is that something was actually studied at York.

Maybe now they can study why unions attract such crybabies that have to whine for job security instead of actually earn it like the rest of us.

Maybe the study would have come to a different conclusion if it actually defined "racism" as "racism" as opposed to "racially-related remarks".

You can prove just about anything by changing the definitions. It's also ironic how the study makes no mention of black students - they were only interested in whites, because, of course, only Caucasians can be racist.

What really fries me, though, is the obvious implication throughout the article and even in the very first sentence that we should be complete douchenozzles and "confront" anybody who makes a "racist" comment. I heard through the grapevine that Queen's actually hired students to walk around doing exactly this. I was ashamed. If I were having an entertaining and politically-incorrect conversation with a friend and some total stranger decided to interrupt us and lecture me about how to be more PC, I would absolutely punch him in the nuts.
