I'm all for experimenting, but I think the people who commented on this have some valid points.

The thread is definitely worth reading, though not for his triple compression technique =P

Interesting thread, but I find it kinda funny that everybody acts like this is something new. It's not. I've been known to use 3 or more compressors in series to achieve certain sounds and I've been doing it for years, particularly for vocals and for my kick/bass signals (similar to the kvr thread). The people I learned it from have been doing it for decades. That thread is also another good example of how some people get so caught up in the "theory" of mixing techniques (compression in this case) that it seems to make them unwilling to open their minds to experimentation and/or deaf (i.e., if my mathematical model tells me it shouldn't work, then I can't hear it working).

i put a 3rd compressor after SC only if the attack and/or release causes an unwanted transient spike. it happens. usually only 1-2db reduction though, this guy is squashing his signal too much.

Except I read a Future Music article quite a few years ago where Hybrid stacked many compressors on a insert to get the sound they wanted on a kick drum.

If you listen to the examples you can see what it's doing to the sound and it's a valid reason why its been processed this way.

Obviously this is a creative technique that make be useful to get ppl thinking and could easily f*k up in the hands of a n00b.

imho, use as many compressors as needed.
production is a delicate mix of pure science and pure art, lean to much to one side and you will probably loose sight of the goal quite fast.

if it sound good, look good & feel good...it is good

There is such a thing as overkill. I really don't see the point of stacking massive numbers of compressors on a track, unless you have a specific strategy in mind, like one to catch the peaks, another to sidechain or something like that...
