I was just watching the PvD live @ Mayday video and it encouraged me to post something.

I've been meaning to buy turntables/mixer for a longtime now but never got the cash flow...(how sad).

My friend recently bought a Denon set at cost (knew someone), which was just basically a cd turntable. Even though I hated the idea of CD turntable evolution, it made me think: HOw easy it is to get new tracks on CD. It would be so much harder and more costly to get all the trax you love on vinyl. However on CD, just burn it right?

Anyways, what do you guys think? Always stick with Vinyl? or succumb to the CD turntables?

Also, I was watching TV before I saw a couple DJ's that had introduced a virtual turntable thing. I'm sure if you're a DJ, you woudl know what i'm talking about. You basically play all your songs off the computer but there is an actual turntable that you spin that will react to all your actions. I'm sure you know what i'm talking about....That will probably be the future don't you think? But isn't that shit realll expensive to get right now?

One last question, I know this is a huge favour to ask but, for the love of trance: If anyone is a distributor/supplier and can get me DJ equipment at cost price, definitely talk to me cuz i'm looking for equipment but cash is tight. I really don't wanna pay retail price for some technics..Thanks

the virtual turntable thing ur referring to is Final Stratch i believe..

the unit itself costs about $800 USD .. and prolly a good investment since u'll spend way more on vinyl in the long run. that might be a good solution cuz then u can use whatever mp3's u want to spin and always have the option about buying vinyl. Juss remember that u still need to buy the decks tho ..

It depends what you want to do as a DJ.

If you want to play at top40clubs, school dances and weddings, then get CD players and/or dj software.

If you want to play at respected Trance/house clubs and raves, get turntables.

It's simple really, seeing that you posted on tranceaddict, I assume you would want to play at Trance clubs/raves. So the decision is pretty easy to make.

hmm very interesting topic, I was just thinking of this my self.
If you got so inspired by PVD, why don't you do the same thing that he does. In an interview or something like that he sad that 40% of the times in the set he uses CD's and other 60% is vinyl!
The reason behind that is that a lot more ppl today don't want or have the cash to spend on pressing vinyl, unless ofcourse you buy a vinyl cutting machine and press them yourself!

the one place on the internet I found is www.pssl.com apparently they have the cheapest prices on the internet, or so they say.
Also in regards to vinyl, it's better if you know how to mix with both I think.

As for "Final Scratch" technology, it sounds like a good idea but does it really work? I know that Richie Hawtin is testing it out right now.

also this is only my suggestion, but maybe you should do like me and buy "Stanton STR8-100" decks like I am going to do, they are a bit cheaper, but in my opinion they are almost as good the Vestax PDX deck and in my opinion only better than the Technics 1200-PD3.

shop around, apparently also a friend of a friend of mine knows this DJ that can possibly get cheap equipment, but I have not talked to this guy yet so don't get your hopes up too much!

P.S. I still think you should invest in to vinyl decks first and than get CD players. And if you shop around the net you can find a lot of vinyl at a fair price.

I had a DJ(he regularly DJs at Russian clubs here in Toronto) on my party yesterday. He was using CD-turntables. I have to say, I was pretty impressed. Not only can you play ALL the latest tunes with thos things(heck, I recorded a CD during the party yesterday and let him play it), but it's also cheaper in the long run in case you don't like what you doing(again, cause to record a CD is so much cheaper).

Besides, your DJ skills don't depend on the equipment you use. If you are a good DJ, you'll be good with CD-turntables.. But if you are a bad DJ, even the best turntables ever won't make you better.

One question about final scratch, I had the impression that Final Scratch is a special design turntable.....but it's not? It's really just the slipmat that makes the manipulation possible? Cuz desidel said that I would still need the turntables..

I think that if my goal is to become a trance (rave) DJ and not some jezzy top 40 DJ, then I should start with the fundamentals and start learning the basics with vinyls, then move into CD.

God, I can't stand some of the top 40 Dj's in toronto who just take a gino/dance track and add some samples and some effects then it's a called a remix.

ok...A little insite here as to somethings here. Don't take offense to this Trancearmada, just little errors.

It is actually cheaper to press 500 plus vinyls then it is to make 500 plus cd's. That's why vinyl never died. The only advantage you have with cd's is if you just made your final wav file, and want to burn it on a cd-r. You can play it that night were ever you are playing.

That leads me to the next comment where PVD says he does 60 Vinyl and 40 cd. In truth, actually PVD uses minidisc players. Also, he does this not because he dosen't want to play vinyl, it's because what he plays on the minidisc's are not out yet, or something he just finished in the studio, so he can play it that night. That way he dosen't have to wait. He WOULD NOT play something on minidisc if it was already out on vinyl. Anyway, I think alot of people know what I think of PVD, I doubt he will be around for too much longer.

Ok..also..Don't skimp when buying turntables. I started out with Gemini 500xl's...(300 bucks each)...then moved on to 1200's..then moved to the PDX-2000's. Point is that you need the good motor in there or it will get frustrating. Technic's and the PDX 2000's have been record tested in the clubs so you can't go wrong with them.

Yea, it is expensive, like anything, but it is worth it to save up. Were there is a will there's a way!

ok well I did not fully explain, I ment that a lot of the times ppl want to test out a track before pressing it on vinyl just to see how it does! So yeah basically what you said, I just did not explain my thoughts fully! I can be so silly sometimes!

I am not bashing the Vestax or the Technics decks, I am just saying that that Stanton Deck I am looking at is just as good as Vestax and the Technics deck. Have you read any reviews on it at all?

also they gave this turntable 4.5 stars where the new Technics MK-3 got only 3 stars out of the five possible from them

this was their verdict on the deck, I am gonna quote them on this:
"An excellent professional turntable, and the best deck yet from Stanton. Challengers for Stanton STR8-100 at the moment are all prety obvious, Technics 1210 Mk2, Vestax PDX-2000.
Without a shadow of a doubt this is the best turntable that Stanton have made to date. Ironing out the major problems found with the previous models and giving this new deck a bundle of extras to boot. While with the STR8-100 being one of the choices of deck in the new DJ booth at Ministry Of Sound, there's more than just our recomendation to go by. A serious contender."

Also just to add to that, Stanton on their website claim that Judge Jules and Paul Oakenfold use this deck as well. So I am not really skimping on the deck if you know what I mean!

man, get TT's, they soooooooooooo much better, cd mixers are too easy man, they take all the skill out of being a dj, they have bloody auto-beatmix!! waht the hell is that????
