if you were a complete beginner as you seem to be, ableton probably is a good suggestion since it's the simplest sequencer around, especially for using samples...
then you could head onto logic when you have a better idea of what you're doing in production...
Logic is amazing, but i guess it would be a bit like jumping in the deep end if you're starting from scratch...
i've found youtube is alright for tutes tho...

its funny you say that.. i started with reason didn't understand it, but then jumped into logic and seemed to understand it much better, weird
ep1x - I suggest you go look around for other apple stores and always ask for the guy that knows logic. i went to 4 stores until i found the right one and i worked with him for like 10-12 sessions then started doing things on my own.
i've been producing for 2 and a half years now and i think my productions are pretty decent
