I wouldnt be surprised if this was true - that he has a lot of wealth stacked up, or at least partially true. In Russia, anything is possible ... as Churchill said long ago, its an enigma, so mysterious and puzzling ...
But knowing Putin, I think he likes being in power and control, likes his macho image, loves being the folk hero. So I doubt he is stealing for personal wealth or taking in a lot of bribes (FROM WHO, ask yourself) - he enjoys being in power. He is not worrying about personal wealth, his ass is well covered I think.

Which investment banks didn't send reps? I did hear that the numbers were down, but not that they didn't send anyone.
Not surprising given how everyone's caving to to this notion that retreats and conferences anywhere cooler than Kansas are a waste of taxpayer money and bankers are just giving themselves free vacations.

Yeah, I read this on BBC News this morning. I must quickly point out that now the advantage is in Russia's favour - she has better cards, so to speak. Russia has much more to lose with accepting this USA offer - and besides, shield or no shield - Russia isnt returning its influence in Eastern Europe (particularly around the area in question: Poland, Czech Rep) - at least not anytime soon. The shield worries her more as a military threat, as a barrier against its future economic aspirations and influence.
Iran purchases billions of dollars of Russian military and equipment, plus Russia is still contracted to finish that reactor at Busher. Moscow doesnt want to simply hand over Iran on a plate to Americans for the sake of "dropping" USA plans for a missile shield in Europe.
I doubt that NATO now has the money, the support or even political advantage in building the shield. They need Russia right now more than ever. Dont forget - Russia is now absolutely critically important to NATO in keeping their Afghanistan under control, as supplies are increasing being shipped through Russia as other alternatives (through Pakistan) are hit by growing Taliban.
Make no mistake, this is a weak deal for Russia to accept. She's got the advantage here. Missile shield shouldn't even be part of the question, it needs to be dropped altogether. And only then can NATO make a different deal to stop Iranian nuclear ambitions.
Russia is maybe allowing journalists to be killed and human rights at home ignored, but NATO/EU/USA need Russia today more than she needs them. Especially now that the last USA base in Central Asia is getting shut down.
