I haven't found any new challenging, fun-to-listen-to electronic release in the past forever, so instead I've been going back instead, (re-)discovering classics like Prodigy's Experience and various EyeQ releases and such. Even the today-monotonous Tiesto used to have a lot more variation in his stuff than today. I mean, compare In My Memory with all the unique themes to the cookie-cutter Elements of Life.

Generally, where has all the inspiration gone? Are there any artists left who actually dare to make their own sound or at least deviate from the norm? Nobody would make an album like Experience today - or even extremely self-indulgent trance like System F, which at least was fun even if not very engaging.

I've heard Liam saying that Invaders Must Die will sound like Experience and their early rave stuff. Although judging by two singles released already I'd say it's gonna sound more like shit than like early awesomeness. So here you go, something to expect to...

Oh, IMD is a breath of fresh air alright, but it's one of the rare ones. It's a little more like Jilted if you ask me and courageously drops the whole pop appeal they took on with AONO.

Either it's engineered to appeal to the old fans or it's actual passionate music; the illusion's so well done I can't tell.

But it's just one album in this marshland of triteness!

the new prodigy tracks are better than everything after fat of the land and also better than 50% of fat of the land but its nothing like music for the jilted generation. i dont think its possible to make an album even close to the quality of jilted generation, ever. experience was really good to but unfortunately shit soundquality compared to todays standards. i just hope the new album isnt overcompressed and distorted to hell (i bet it is though).

I'd say it's former, after the decade of shit Liam finally realized that going back to roots it the only way to go (like Metallica). Trying to develope a new sound and move further away from the roots would probably sound even worse than AONO shit. I have some serious doubts about this album, I'd like it to be good, but I'm affraid I'm gonna be left disappointed.

Just like Experience (or MFTJG) was just one album in marshland of triteness back then. We had a similar discussion in some thread not too long ago, the bottom line is it's not too smart to compare the state of music today with state of music in the 90's for example.

Anyway I agree. There's so much more electronic music being produced today, probably thousands or tens of thousands of times as much. But the harsh reality is that even though massive amounts of tracks are being churned out, great musicians are still as rare as they ever were back in the "old days," and it's sometimes tough to find them among the sea of crap...

i'm sorry, but i completely disagree with you on this. there's loads of fresh, inspiring young artists out there releasing quality music. you'll have to look past tiesto and the prodigy to find them.

Personally I think it's aged horribly and is massively over-rated. I only play Out Of Space and Hyperspeed from it. Experience Expanded added some good tracks but it's probably the most over-rated dance LP of its day.

As for the new album, I'll take it you haven't heard any new Pendulum, Qemists or nu-rave if you think it's a "breath of fresh air". Howlett is just cashing in now. Only Warrior Dance actually sounds like it's from 1992 as opposed to what 16 year old rock kids think 1992 sounded like.
