Curious...what blend of mixing do you prefer? The fast, relentless hardhouse/trance slamming style of the likes of DJ Irene, or the beautiful, structured programming taste of the likes of S&D?
I mix a little bit of both...start out slow and uplifting, or slow and dark, progress into a housey, techno-ish feel, then back up into trance heaven, and cap it off with either a huge trancer or slow it back down to start where I began.

i prefer being relentless. i like slamming down stomping track after stomping track with no time to stop and think.. or to stop moving... except for a mix into a breakdown here and there to make people think "maybe he's done"... but alas the beat comes back hard.

S&D's style is good... for something to listen to during boring sex or something...

blah @ slow, meandering progressive stuff... kinda reminds me of a horse-draw carriage ride across the country...

I find that s&d's mixes are boring and don't take me anywhere. Just a flat line. Blah.

I prefer to watch djs that know how to slam it home on the mixer, but I prefer to dance to nice flowing mixes.

Many say that S&D are boring...compared to fast hard house and trance DJ's yeah they are boring, but their track selection and programming and mixing skills are fucking great. While it is a bit easier to mix prog house and trance, their mixes are really fascinating and cool...
Then again, house shaking booty romping floor flattening house and trance is fucking awesome as well.

It all depends on the music, the harder & faster the music, the harder & faster the mixing (generally speaking).

yes, prog is piss easy 2 mix, coz its so lifeless, flat and blendable because of its blandness and length, 9 out of 10 times 2 prog tunes will go together, if u mix proper trance there will only a couple of tunes in ur box that would fit as equally well as the prog 1s.

Sasha and Digweed are masters behind the decks, and prog house is not easy at all to mix, maybe all the beats are simillar but they are slow and slow means a lot of drift inbetween beats and less beats to work with where as most the other stuff is a lot faster and you have a lot more to work with. Not to mention their phrase matching is perfect it almost sounds as if one song just want to force the other out. Paul van Dyk is all a very technical mixer while Paul Oakenfold is more of a track selection dj, im not saying he isn't good(we all know he is), its just his mixing is not at tight as Sasha Digweed, or PVD for that mater, he has a awesome track selection and when i say awesome i mean just about anything he plays is gold.

Anyway, both styles are good, I use them both but they have to suit the tracks you are playing.
