Friday, May 22nd - The Bunker Detroit Edition @ Oslo w/ Jan Krueger, Derek Plaslaiko

If you want a great way to kick off your DEMF weekend, this is it.
I'll be there for sure. Will be a great chill time with excellent music. That this will aparently be Jan's exclusive gig at DEMF should be enough reason to go. He was my and many others standout DJ of DEMF last year.

THE BUNKER PRE-DEMF PARTY

with DJs:

Jan Krueger (Hello?Repeat, The Bunker | Berlin) EXCLUSIVE!!
Derek Plaslaiko (The Bunker, Spectral | Queens)
Spinoza (Beyond, The Bunker | Brooklyn)

Jan Krueger has been involved in the German techno scene since the mid-90's, doing everything from DJing, to throwing parties, to a recent stint as sales manager at the highly respected distributor Word and Sound. He recently left Word and Sound to focus on his DJ career and Hello?Repeat, the label he started with Daze Maxim. Jan has already made quite a name for himself in Berlin, appearing regularly at Watergate, Panorama Bar, and Club Der Visionäre. His rise to fame in North America has happened incredibly quickly. His first North American gigs were in Detroit during last year's festival weekend at the Need I Say More 3 afterparty at the Old Miami, and the Accelerate closing party at The Works on Monday. He made quite an impression at both gigs, and kinda stole the show from bigger name DJs. He's completely torn the roof off of The Bunker all three times he's appeared since then, and has become one of the hottest acts on the North American techno circuit. Tonight is your only chance to catch Jan play this weekend, and he's sure to deliver a memorable set.

It definitely wouldn't be The Bunker without Derek Plaslaiko, ringleader of late night party antics. What can we really say about him that you don't already know? He pretty much blows up The Bunker every single week, usually outshining the special guests. 2008 was a huge year for Derek, with a successful 15 date Spectral Residency Tour of North America, very well received podcasts for Resident Advisor and XLR8R, and appearances at DEMF, Igloofest in Montreal, and Daikanyama Unit in Tokyo. He also launched his GO!!! monthly at APT, bringing in guests like Magda, Heartthrob, Patrick Russell, and Nikola Baytala. We expect a lot from him, but in 2009 you can expect much more as Derek focuses more energy into his own productions and finally releasing some music. Also, his mix of all Spectral material was part of the recent Spectral 50 release, on, you guessed it, Spectral Sound.

Bryan Kasenic (aka Spinoza) is known in the electronic music world for throwing many successful parties, playing adventurous DJ sets, launching an influential newsletter, and starting Beyond, his own booking agency. His set at Derek Plaslaiko's birthday last year floored everyone still in attendance, and kept the party rocking well past it's scheduled stop time with everyone dying for more at the end. His DJ sets this year have been rare, but always a special treat. Best known for throwing the weekly Bunker party for almost 6 years now, Bryan has a ton of experience throwing loft parties and afterhours as well, and is really excited about the new House-n-Home project he founded alongside Anthony Parasole.

The Bunker is a Brooklyn based techno party that recently became monthly after running weekly for six years. After ten years of coming to Detroit religiously for festival weekend, we decided it was high time we throw a party there ourselves. Since The Bunker has always been on Friday, picking the date was a no-brainer. The Bunker is not only tied to Detroit through our Detroit ex-pat resident DJ Derek Plaslaiko, but also through the many Detroit artists we've hosted as special guests over the years. The Bunker has provided a NYC homebase for everyone from headliners like Daniel Bell, Magda, Matthew Dear, Suburban Knight, and Ryan Elliott to current stars like Ryan Crosson, Seth Troxler, and Lee Curtiss (all of whom played their first NYC gigs at The Bunker), to next generation talents like Drew Pompa, Josh Dahlberg, Jared Wilson, Carlos Souffront, Luke Hess, Brian Kage, Chuck Flask, Rich Korach, and Clark Warner. We've also welcomed expats Eric Cloutier and Mike Servito into the fold. Tonight is the first time we've thrown a party outside of NYC, and we honestly wouldn't considering doing it anywhere but Detroit.

Friday May 22 at Oslo
1456 Woodward Avenue at John R Street, Detroit, MI (map)
Doors at 9pm

I actually strongly disliked Oslo when I went there last year. That was for a super-crowded Sunday night party though. So I'm hoping since this one is on Friday and not everyone will be in town yet, and all the riff-raff will probably be at The Prodigy show, that it will be much less crowded and enjoyable (like you know, I will be able to breathe).
