Hello everyone,

As of right now I am using FL Studio-Sytrus as my primary instrument and trying to master it. If you don't use Sytrus, your examples of other instruments would help too. To get it out of they way here, I have done some tutorials, like Blackhole, but if you know of others that I haven't checked out yet then please tell.

I do have an understanding or a basic understanding on Synth creation, but when I look at the presets that Sytrus has, I wonder, what were they thinking when they did that?, Why they added that filter there?, or Why they added that envelope there?

What is your thought process when you are making sounds for your scores or when you are just playing with a instrument to come up with a sound? How do you decide on the parts of the synth to create that sound?

As for study sake and feel free to use another preset or other example if U like. Here is one in Sytrus, it is digi 2 located in the Synth string category.....This goes back to my questions above. Why did this person decide on using all those Operators, how do you know when you should? I will leave it at that for now.

He probably just decided what kind of sound he wanted to make, and since he already knew the software, he just..did it.

Study FM synthesis!
I love Sytrus, i use it as a vst in Raper!
For FM theres only 3 synths i like hard and soft!

1.Yamaha DX - 200 (its a DX7)
2.Sytrus
3.NI FM 8

BWT FM synthesis is hard as fuck to program to me but i have tons and tons of DX7 patches thats why i love FM!

Very simply put, thank you. Makes sense. It was one of my thoughts about how this person did it.

Sytrus is FM synthesis , So you should try reading the manual of the DX 7.
In my opinion , Sytrus is really complex and not user friendly , In fact I find NI FM8 to be easier to work with. But then , each to his own.
FM synthesis is a really complex stuff , you really need to spend more time on it

Hey,I do have FM8, where do I find tutorials on this synth? I found a few on Youtube, but I don't think they go indepth. I have to relook. I seem to not find much on FM8.

I dont know about tutorials , but personally I feel that the best way to learn how to use a synth is to mess around with it.
There shouldn't be much to learn about it , afterall its just waveforms , feedback and stuff(Not really sure if there is not alot to learn since I don't use FM much)
So you can try to mess with everything you see , dont worry , the synth wont eat you up

So, is there anybody else that can add to the pot here? Would like to see what else I can learn. Looking forward to more responses

If you're going to go tweaking around, get a midi controller with some pots. Set some parameters to the pots, and that way it'll be easier to see how two parameters interact, rather than using the mouse or keyboard.

Because FL Studio was my first vst compatable host, sytrus broke my vst cherry.
I'm not an expert programmer, but because sytrus was my first I have the most experience with it.
If you are new, I would suggest you start somewhere else, somewhere a bit easier and more straight forward.

Also if you want, one of the largest sytrus refills can be found on the flipsideforums by timmy techno. Its the most thorough patch bank I've ever found for it.
