Talking Getting ideas for a track while mixing

I recently noticed that when I DJ, and listen to both tracks at the same time (one through the headphones, another coming from the speakers; or, split-channel), I get an idea for a new track! The elements of the two songs combine and create something new. It's almost as if you could write a new tune as soon as you walk away from the decks, if you don't forget

Is it just me?

Cool

generally sounds like a bootleg to me, or a transition u could have pulled off earlier and learn from trial and error. most of the time i spend in the fones is beatmatching, so i kinda ignore the track and concentrate on keeping the beats in time, not fannying around going woooooooo, wot a song that would be.

yah i was thinking the same thing... if u think too much about what the songs could be like instead of what they are (out of beat sync most probably, lol ) you'll prolly slip up in your set, and imagine if u did combine the two tunes u would have a nice law suit on your hands like mauro picotto lol

but you wouldn't blindly combine them, you'd just get an initial IDEA and develop this idea on your own, so that it'll go in its own direction (which isn't that hard once you get the theme). There is nothing illegal about that. Plus, nobody would know anything about the origins of your track.

BTW, what happened to Mauro Piccotto?

there's loads and loads of songs that sound very similar, even with the same melody...
