Has anyone here every built their very own and I'm sure highly treasured analog synthesizer, either by yourself or using one of the many kits you can find online?
Looking for a really simple one to dip my toes in the water on... premade PCB with predefined components. Buy the components, solder them on and learn a little about electronics on the way. Only a couple oscillators with basic waveforms, basic filter and an output. Definately want something easy to get started on before I think about taking the next step.
Any recommendations would be gold to me... sounds like too much fun :

I'm not sure how you feel about TB-303s but there is a hardware clone kit called "x0xb0x". It is basically a 303 do-it-yourself kit, link - http://www.ladyada.net/make/x0xb0x/ . You have to go on a waiting list to get one... but it sounds like what you are looking for. I have been thinking about getting one too they are around 400 bucks.

Been doing a lot of research today, definately some exciting options... I think I'll be trying my hand at a PIC based on to start given some work experience with that.

x0xb0x'es are hard to come by, I think the waiting list is over 1000 people now, and she was about to give up on them earlier this year (unable to source necessary parts)

I went the route of the MSSIAH cartridge... just got it in the mail yesterday. Tacked on the SID2SID board so I can add a second chip for stereo.

Well that sounds like a fairly good route to go, less hassle depending which way you look at it!
So are you going to use the internal sequencer that comes with MSSIAH. How will u implement it into your setup?
mmm stereo....hey also will that increase your voices to 6 yeah?
cheers

Yes, that will increase it to 6 voices. I'm not really sure how I'm going to use it, yet. Really, I think I'm mostly going to use it for its MIDI capability. I'm hoping I can tie it in with my DAW and essentially use it as a hardware synth.
