Ok so i bought some monitors YAY!! I tested out like a wall of monitors in the shop he left me alone in a room with a trance cd I had bought with me a cd player and a patch bay OOOH YEAH lol
Anyway the yamaha HSxxx series sounded to 'clinical' they are honest but I think they would bug me after a while. The M audio ones seemed bassier but lost it the higher the volume got.
So i was left with do i spend £349 on some KRK rokit 6's or £259 on rokit 5's after listening extensively to both the only difference I could here is a little and i mean a little more depth to the sound with the larger speaker. So i chose the rokit 5's and some sennisher hd's with the money I saved
So if your lookin for new monitors and have £300 to spend i think the rokit series are a good bet they sound pretty nice.
Thought i'd post as i been askin for a while what ones to get.

I recently got those exact monitors along with the Krk 10s subwoofer and my god i love them so much. I haven't dared turning the volume on the sub higher than the lowest setting because it can already shake my dorm room
All I need is a better audio interface. Right now i have the numark DJIO which was nice but it doesn't have any volume knobs and additionally it's made of plastic.
Probably gonna end up getting the PreSonus AudioBox USB.

I bought the RP6 a few days ago, and coupled it with a E-MU 0404 USB this morning.. sounds great. Not the flattest speakers around, but considering the price they're great, and as long as you're aware of it's characteristics (low mids etc.) they're fine. I can recommend the 0404 USB if you're looking for a basic audio interface with great audio quality. There's some discussions around where the D/A converter is compared to far more expensive interfaces, specially in the newer revision of the 0404 which has a better converter.

Looks like i'm going to have to do some audio interface research.
I got the whole setup at guitar center cuz they had some deals going on. I ended up getting the sub for around $400. But since i was making such a large purchase they threw in some monster rca cables for free.

A mate has RP8's, brilliant sound but massive units. I was considering RP5's due to lack of space but couldn't really afford them. Ended up buying Alesis M1 520's. Love them, very tight and clear across the frequencies. Ideal if, like me, you have a small studio area and a tight budget.

I have the Rp6's and they give a better all round sound than the 5's i think as they can produce more bass. I really like them too i've just moved house so i'm getting used to them again in my new studio that i've set up..
But i think for the price you can't complain..

Yeah i did notice more depth on the rp 6's it was just space (they had to go on windowsill) and money with me but I am happy with them even better when i get the sub. Still not a complete monitoring system with no sub.
When im in the college studio they have some big ass mk monitors but when you turn sub off you really notice the difference..

I have the RP6 aswell, there pretty good. I wanted to choose from the RP5 or RP6 as well. I had my mind set to the RP5's, mostly because the budget. But when I was in the audioshop, and listen to them both, I fastly pulled my wallet for a extra hundred. Although, for there price the RP5's are nice monitors, the RP6 sounds so much better compared to the RP5.
I noticed that the bass response on the RP5 was very low indeed, I hope you can fix this with a subwoofer.

Very good thread guys, I've been asking myself the very same question. How much does an appropriate sub costs for these units?
