burning in headphones?

what exactly does it mean to burn in headphones? i've had akg 240s for a while now and somebody asked me if they're burned in(break in). what does burning in your headphones do? how do i do it? is it just a myth?

thanks for your time

plug them into a cd player, put it on repeat and let it sit for 3 days. i have akg701s, recommended burn in time is like 100 hours.

Interesting method of doing it

I have AKG 240, but id rather wear them gradually.

Is the a difference one can notice ?

Typically, white noise can also be used to burn in headphones due to having equal power in each frequency band.
