This is not new though. Many stores have been charging for bags for years already. |
Ahhh but the difference is that a) it wasnt a forced law and b) most importantly it was part of the business model to provide CHEAPER PRICES. I dont mind paying a nickle for an oversized bag at no frills when the prices are 20-30% cheaper. Now you have the nanny state nitwits involved and all it is doing is padding the bottom line of the major supermarkets, environment my ass!

Moron. You can buy plain white bags for the garbage at Canadian Tire, Walmart...and I would also imagine hardware stores and the like. |
Why should i have to BUY them? I thought the idea of nickle a bag was so that no one used them. So whats the alternative? Ah but you see, this isnt about the environment and now they are making more money so why should they care?

Ummm, I've been paying 5c a bag for a long time as my grocery store for my last 4 or so years has been No Frills - get over yourself.
You (pick 1, or do all ... like I do)
a) Suck up that oh so horrible cost of 5c a bag when doing your groceries.
b) Buy garbage bags.
c) Save up bags when you go shopping at other stores (ie: convenience stores).

It's to reduce the use of disposable bags when there are reusable alternatives available.
Hell, in addition to my above post actually - I rarely use bags from the grocery store at all. I shop with a granny cart, and just load stuff up w/o using bags 99% of the time - I buy a box of garbage bags once every few months. I use either 2 of the smaller garbage bags a week (if not less), or 1 big green bag every 2 weeks or so .. (and, if I was so inclined I could /really/ reduce this actually...), which seems to me like it results in less plastic bags in the land-fills. As, when I did use grocery bags for garbage, I'd be using a few of them per week.

Why should I? And why should the government be involved in this? How about a 5 cent DISCOUNT off the grocery bill for not using a bag?

Again more cost and defeats the purpose doesnt it?
