electro/nu-disco/ghettotech/emotronic

So down here in SD we are having a huge growth in these genres of electronic music everywhere from the big clubs to the smallest dive-bars. Most of the people into to these genres are generally hipster/emo (i said most, not all so dont get offended). I like the fact that these kids are finally warming up to electronic music, but the shit they choose to listen to is just awful (in my opinion). Any of you guys have any thoughts/comments/feelings about this and is this happening anywhere else?

FYI: for those of you who dont know what emotronic is: the combining of Emo with electronic music. Artsy, indie, electro music.

I'm not really up on stereotypes, but aren't hipster and emo very different things? I thought hipsters lack emotion and just act laid back, whereas emo are overly emotional.

Anyways, when I think of nu-disco, I think of SebastiAn and slammin french electro house. Whatever converts people off Britney is fine by me.

They get stuck together since both the popular stereotypes involve guys with long hair and a thing for independent music. But emos wear more eye-shadow and cry more often or something, I guess. The stereotype for "emo" in particular has become ridiculously broad; I've seen people refer to Linkin Park as "emo."

I agree with you that hipster and emo are 2 different things but down here in san diego, the 2 groups tend to mesh together. These days there are so many subgenres of different styles and cultures, they all tend to overlap each other one way or another...
