Xone 2D vs 1D + Audio 8

So I just sold my cdj-800's. It was a very very sad day

So I am going all digital!

I currently have a xone 92R and would like to use traktor with it..all 4 decks.

So here is my dilemma. I know the popular thing is to get the Xone 1D plus the Audio 8 DJ to use with Traktor. Now what about getting a Xone 2D? It comes with audio card already built-in so that is one less thing I have to plug in. I do understand that I can't use the built-in sound card for control cd/vinyl, but i don't plan on using it so that is not an issue.

Anyone have any suggestions?

you'll regret selling those cdj's

why not just go ahead and use the cdj's with traktor and save yourself the hassle of boring midi. maybe it's just me, but it sucks the passion out of dj'ing when all you're doing is pressing buttons to start tracks instead of having control over the deck, just with more versatility and options?

Don't remind me! I just don't have the space for them. And I was thinking in the future if I do want them back, was thinking of getting the technics turntables to use with timecode vinly. I've never used turntables before and that could be a new challange

I am hoping that once I start exploring and trying 3 or 4-deck mixing that it will take some of the boredom away. We'll see.

Any suggestions on my original question?

My friend uses the Audio8 with CDJs and a 1D. He has said nothing but positive things about the 1D. have you thought about pulling a Richie Hawtin and getting 2 1Ds?

You might as well get Traktor Scratch Pro now if you are planning on eventually getting a DVS setup.

2d is not traktor scratch ceritifed so no time code (which you don't seem to want), and also only has 3 outs, so you won't be able to run 4 separate decks.
if you are sure you don't want time code one day, any 8 out soundcard would do, ubt the audio 8 is pretty good, you might be better off with 2* 1d and TSP inc the audio8

I own the Audio 8 DJ, and an Audio 4 DJ, and have previously owned the Xone 1D, Xone 92R, and a Xone 3D.

The 2D looks ok, but as was stated it's not "Traktor Scratch" certified so you won't be able to use it for timecode control if you choose to in the future (although it maybe beceome certified, but who knows).

Honestly, A+H makes great mixers but their digital side has been pretty wonky. The 3D had an atrocious sound-card that forced me to sell it, the 4D had initial problems as well that required firmware updates, and the 1D STILL won't work properly on a USB HUB (tough if you are short on USB ports).

So for audio, buy an audio card that's just a great audio card first and nothing more. The Audio 8 is great, but the 4 is half the price and still supports 2 deck timecode control if you like. If you can afford the 8, I say get it...

As for the 1D... it's just "ok" to me. The layout is rather cramped and sort of "weird" for Traktor. It's doable, but you just have a bunch of tightly positioned knobs and buttons and have to remember what they all do and such. I created some custom templates, and it was "ok" but not perfect. And of course, I hated I couldn't use it on a USB hub, and also found it pretty bulky to stick in a record bag. It does look sexy next to a 92 though

What I use now is the Stanton SCS.3D controller. Actually I have two of them, and I can control all 4 decks very easily using the provided (and brilliantly done!) MIDI map/preset included from Stanton. What's great about these is that all the controls have MIDI feedback via LED's, so the controls "show" you what the values of a knob are or what not are in software. I can control the loops, effects, hot cues, filters, etc. all very easily.

Some don't like the lack of physical knobs, but since you are using your Xone to mix (and the mixer is really where you want KNOBS)... it should be less of an issue. I really suggest you take a look at these. I use mine to compliment a timecode setup, but I can just as easily not touch the decks and mix a whole set using just the SCS.3D's and external mixer (Rane).

I also got a SCS.3M as part of their beta test program, and with that I can have a full mobile MIDI only setup that fits in my laptop bag. Pretty flexible!

Thanks for the advice.
I thought the 2D does have four outs?

Also Ryan, can I use the audio 4 to control 4 decks in traktor (no timecod)?

I think it does. I was saying the Audio 4 only supports 2 timecode decks.

You can use the Audio 4 for all 4 decks, BUT only if you are using the internal mixer, OR assign 2 of the decks to one audio output and the other 2 to the other (not very useful unless you just want to throw in samples).

If you intend to use your Xone 92 to mix, you'll need 4 stereo outputs, one for each deck into your mixer. That will require the Audio 8 or another 8 out sound card.
