Dunno Best way to promote yourself as an artist/producer?

Okay, So now I've been producing for 12 years, so I have most of the basics in music production pretty much covered.

What is the easiest way to get your music heard by the "bigger" labels? I've released some tracks on some minor labels, and I feel like the tracks don't get the attention it deserves, seeing as the smaller labels don't promote their tracks nearly as much as the bigger labels.

What are the smartest sites to sign up to, are there any shortcuts when sending out demoes etc.

Any advice on how to promote yourself in imaginative and original ways would be greatly apreciated.

you should go to some social media workshops, i went to my first one a few weeks ago. it really explains a lot of what you know but i never tied it all together into something with an end result, now my time is much more focused.

labels care about music but they care more about name recognition, especially the big ones so if you can build your own name (which is very possible with the help of blogs, social media campaigns etc) you can easily get your foot in the door where ever you want. i'm speaking from personal experience here as my nudisco project has really opened my eyes to the way internet marketing is working and helped me with some very big labels

You have to make a quality standout track, and even if you think you have made a quality standout track.. they might not see it that way.

I guess the trick is to get that one track hyped and talked about, then people will take interest in your other stuff.

A good thing would be to send your music to DJs that are with labels, ones you most preferably know. If they like your stuff they will play your stuff out in radio shows, clubs, etc. & then you have much a wider audience.

From what I know thats the best way to get your music distributed.

This is why many producers are also DJs.

Processing a highly structured and complex pattern of sensory input as a unified percept of "music" is probably one of the most elaborate features of the human brain.....understanding how music is perceived and how it may elicit intense sensations is far from being understood.

Hustlin. Downtown Hustlin. Its about the Hustle. Hustlin get you things and thangs.

With Electronic Music, its not as hard to get heard as it is with Hip Hop, Rock, Pop music, which is one of the things that attracted me to EDM, I figured I could actually be heard, even though I started making Hip Hop, and still do, but i'll get deeper into that as opportunities develop into the future.

Electronic Labels, are fairly accessible, in other words there are ways to get a demo to them. Just look up the label you are interested in, find their demo submission requests and off you go. But you just have to have some sick shit to actually get signed by a decent label. Though there are politics involved, some labels seem to have a guarded policy on who they sign music from, and like to stay within their local scene, or their own friends. So you gotta do your research and avoid labels that wont look twice no matter how good your music is. Hustle! Make Good Music! Research!

Some great advice from all angles here to get you started. Its already been said bt I'll reiterate, once you have that killer track you have to get it exposure. Best way is by dj's playing it. If you know any well known Dj's thats a good start.

Look up contacts for other well known DJ's, via their websites, try and get email address's if possible, most have these up even on facebook and myspace for people to send them their lastest demo's. But make sure you know that track will suit that dj. Otherwise next time they prob wont listen to your work thinking its not suited to them, maybe.

Once a few DJ's are playing and even charting your track it soon gets distributed between themselves and then on radio if its doing well. After that it may get the attention of labels. But of course the track needs to be top draw stuff for it to do the rounds properly.

Even if it only gets heard by a few and you know they play it thats a good start cos you can always send those dj's more tracks in the future.

Also if you're looking into getting with some bigger labels, try getting remixes for your track on your own first, it's much more likely they'll be interested in the stuff if it's good (of course) and have a full release package already.
You can go into a good EP for starters instead of original+remixes idea too, but you will need 3 good tunes one way or another at least, one good track won't cut it.
