Who is using Cubase 5 without any headaches? I just noticed Steinberg released a 5.1 patch (not to be confused with the previous 5.01 release). I was hoping they had addressed the CPU Overload issue which has basically rendered the program almost useless for me. All I'm reading on the Steinberg forums is how buggy and shitty the 5.1 update is and how so many standing issues are still unresolved. Part of me is starting to regret upgrading to Cubase 5 and I'm just wondering how all of you other Cubase 5 users are feeling. Thanks guys...
i just reinstalled everything two weeks ago... brand new copy of xp sp3 and cubase 5.01... pristine as can be and it works fine now... before I was having trouble with cpu overloading as well.
my pc is never hooked up to the internet and is only used for music production. As a result it lasted me maybe a year of decent operation with cubase before getting buggy on me.

I've had some serious problems with Cubase 5 and have pretty much given up on it. My biggest problems are the real-time export issue, the new-and-improved-auto-file-corrupting feature (it destroyed two of my projects), and the constant crashing that Cubase has become so well known for.
Regardless, the 5.1 update is hardly a "0.X" update unless you own one of the hardware controllers. Otherwise, it's just a lame "0.0X" update attempt at fixing some very minor bugs, while ignoring the big obvious ones. Lame.

I'm currently in the process of buying C5. This thread doesn't exactly make me feel better

That pretty much sums up exactly what I deal with.
Cryo, what is this auto-file-corrupting thing? I haven't had that happen yet thankfully. 2 of your projects were destroyed?
My audio PC has never once touched the internet. Also the same system never had an issue when using SX3 so I think it really all boils down to the shitness of Cubase 5.

cubase 5 is the most stable cubase ever ihmo. much more stable than sx3. it works pretty well for me even on windows 7.

Yeah, Cubase 5 essentially self-destructed two of my projects, one to the point where it would crash every time I tried to export it and ultimately I couldn't even try to open the project without getting the "Cubase Has Stopped Working" message, which I am starting to believe is actually a new feature added to Cubase 5. BTW, that was the project file for "Telescope" that many TA forum members remixed as part of a contest - I ultimately had to re-build it from scratch...that was not a fun week for me.

I think its pretty insane the number of issues and factors that go into ensuring a stable system for a given DAW... my setup the way it is (no pc games, no internet, no suspect software), working in Ableton 7 was impossible... constantly crashing, slow running.
Cubase 5 seems more stable to me, and I deal with the occasional crash every other day but I still get a good hour of work in. A simple reintialization of the project works fine. You really just have to make sure your PC is babied.

The occasional crash every other day?!!!! And, that's stable to you? Actually, that's a little less than I was experiencing, but an app that crashes every other day (or more in my case and usually just out of the blue and apparently not associated with any plugins or system issues) does not come close to meeting my definition of "stable."
My PC is babied and I have very few crashes with my primary DAW Sonar (maybe one or two crashes a month with regular use, but the crashes are usually associated with third-party plugins and not an inherent problem with Sonar) and Live 8 has not crashed on me once. Project5 has crashed on me maybe a dozen or so times in 3 years.

Cubase 5 has worked perfectly fine for me even though I'm very aware that there are other people out there that are having major issues. My system has been working like a dream ever since I rebuilt it fully converted my studio PC to all legit software. Legal software and a reinstall of Windows works wonders!

Haha, yea actually not even kidding there, they are very "forgiving" crashes though... Cubase just gives me an error saying yea your project messed up, click ok to save a backup and close out cubase... Cubase closes normally and I just start it up again, whole process is maybe 15 seconds at most. I rarely lose any work.
So maybe I'm pretty forgiving myself but I figure you never want your production studio hooked up to the internet anyways.
