Question I need help with MP3 Compression!...

Iam about to get some live sets of someone on TA becuase I don't have any yet...anyway I never listen to my mp3's on my computer because I much prefer to burn them onto audio cds. The problem is once i've converted them to wav format they're gonna be 10x larger and they're not gonna be able to fit on. So I need some sorta compression program that causes no/minimal loss of sound quality. Is there such a thing? and if there is any links/help you could give me i'd be grateful

Well i dont thik you can do this, for hifis, etc to recognise it, it has to be in wav format. So there is no way of doing that.

You could buy a mp3 player, one that can read mp3s off a cd and play it, or get a creative mp3 player like me, with a 6gig memory.

Enjoy

if you wanna chop up the mp3 to fit on one cd check out mp3 slicer... http://www.swiftp.com/mp3-slicer/ ...it is easy to use, ya just need a fix to register and you can use it fully. Those are easy to find.

Check out fireburner, especially for live sets. Once you figure out how to manipulate the cue sheets you can set your tracks til whenever instead of having one long track, you can have each individual song all set up.

your problem isn't size, but length. Compression won't do you any good. a 120 meg 120 min set will still be 120 minutes after compression and besides, MP3s are already compressed and essentially cannot be compressed any further. So if you want to fit a live set on one cd, i suggest you cut out those songs you don't like.

Do you mean you want to change the mp3 into a .wav to make an audio cd, and you are worried about the space this will take up on your hard drive? Nero and CDRWIN can both burn audio cds using mp3 files so if you can get them you don't have to worry. The only problem is length. If it is longer than 80 mins you will have to chop it. But you do NOT need to change it to .wav to make an audio cd.

When you want to burn a mp3 (liveset) onto cd, you can simply load the mp3 and burn it (as audio cd).

I know Nero & WinonCD & CDRWIN all decode the mp3 into a temporay .wave file , which will be burned onto your cd.

So you only need about 700 (when you burn a liveset) megs temporary space everytime you burn your set.

Hope this helps.

on my system nero decodes on the fly and doesn't need 700 megs temp space

maybe if you've got a shitty computer it would?

Um.. right.

You can't use any compression if you want to play the CD on a regular Audio CD player, because they only play regular audio.
