Is there a sampler to check out?

Was looking over some old stuff last week, have a track I sketched and never really finished from Sept 17 2005, wondering if its dubstepish lol. Was making mostly hip hop then, and decided to do something more electronic with a UG hip hop track I was workin on. I'll post if anyone wants to lemme know what it sounds like.

Tracklist looks cool, but I have gotta say...for fabric's 50th cd (a landmark no doubt) they should have gotten someone legendary. This is kind of a bummer.

Indeed, the Dubstep market seems really small still. Outside of UK, maybe some scenes, but it seems there is not much of a Dubstep buying market outside of UK.

Its been around for years now, not sure if we will ever see this music taking off outside of UK, unless America or other places where House and Techno are dominant want to be level 10 pretentious. I think LA is definately done being pretentious and has matured too much to jump in hard at this point. Dubsteps combination of dark and slow sounding bpms makes it hard for the sound to be sucessful outside of the UK, and have a viable market. I think this music works in London because of the weather there and the dense population. Maybe it would work in Seattle, and a small niche scene in NY. I'll check this out though.

Where is the Burial? Some unreleased goods would have been nice to see in the one Dubstep mix i'd listen to.

Yeah I've held this theory for awhile myself, dubstep is very inherently English music, which is why it may be hard for American audiences to really get into. I'm not from the UK myself, but my proximity to the country and the amount of shared contemporary culture between us makes the dubstep sound seem very natural to my ears.

Maybe so, I wouldn't say its a bummer though. I'm pretty excited about this, its something different that could end up being really great.

If I was running Fabric long enough to ink one deal, and really wanted to push DubStep to a wider audience, I would have had Burial pull off a Fabric 36 [Villalobos]. Original material + remixes of the recent top tracks. It would pushed the Dubstep flag much farther, pulling in listeners that are into other forms of electronic music once again, who already have a deep liking towards Burial and his work. Quite a few people love Burial, yet they might not be regular listeners of Dubstep. But they would give a close listen to "Dubstep" in a mix context coming from Burial, and maybe would have jumped on board to the sound, or at least ignored it less.

Why would Burial ever do that, instead of making his own new album?

Martyn is pretty big as it is (and he actually DJs, Burial does not), if they were actually trying to push dubstep to a wider audience he will do a fine job. But this is definitely not their first dubstep Fabric.

You do know Fabric 36 is basically an album?

And his music would reach far more people being packaged as a Fabric/Album. So again, why would'nt he? Would not be surprised if he has a stockpile to have done both a Fabric 36 type ordeal and an album. Anyhow thats my spec on what would have been a bigger opportunity for Dubstep at this point.

Yes, I realize they are all his productions, but it is still presented as a DJ mix rather than an album format. The point of the Fabric series is to showcase DJs, Villabolos chose his own unique way to use the platform (which everyone should do imo). Considering Burial doesn't DJ (and has nothing to do with Fabric), why would he choose to do this instead of a new album? He seems far more inclined to do things his own way.

everybody has a chance of doing something different when it comes to a "landmark"...the way i see it you can either do as traditionalists do and use a known name or you can give the great opportunity to someone you have faith in as Fabric clearly does on Martyn.
