'Sticks n' Stones', 'Shilla' and 'Tudo Bem' have been thoroughly road tested by Paolo and select others during the last few months. All tracks were written on the road by Paolo on his laptop.

In his own words…. "DJ Strip is another side of me. The idea was simply to put together an identity that 'stripped' away a lot of the stuff I often feel tracks don't need, including my own. When I am DJ'ing a large percentage of tracks I play are just that - tracks. So DJ Strip was born to explore those ideas a bit more. Its about keeping it simple. Housey, deep or tech, but all tracky and stripped back. And the travel / laptop aspect fed into them as well.. I get most of my ideas for tracks during the middle of DJ sets, often hearing new things, texture, just moods in the way tracks mix together, especially these days where there is often 2 or 3 things going at once. So these tunes were written on the road in between gigs using that as the inspiration"

This first EP explores those ideas in full with three diverse yet interlinked themes.

'Sticks 'n Stones' is built around a simple woodblock riff that runs through the entire track. I was staying in this crazy hotel.. the tallest in the world… in Shanghai and the elevator music had this woodblock sound playing.. I made something similar and just had fun playing with it and modulating it and slamming the drums back in a few times with a bit more intensity. Its been going down really well wherever I have played it. One of those tracks that seems to fit in different kinds of sets.'

'Shilla' is a big fat loose house groove with whacked out vocal samples and a really trippy vibe. I wrote it in the gardens of the hotel of the same name in Seoul, at the time of the former president's funeral. There was a real atmosphere that day which kind of fed into the track. The idea here was to play with time stretches, so the baseline, vocals and some other bits are all bits of noise stretched around until they fit. You get a nice organic feel that way thats a bit difficult to recreate digitally. I threw in some Underworld-esque chords towards the end which seem to raise a few smiles (and hands).

'Tudo Bem' is in some ways the simplest of the three. its a stark tech house groove using just six drum elements and a baseline, put through some various reverb and ex and cut up here and there.. and that's it. it really doesn't need anything else. I finished it in about 3 hours, the day after a gig in Hungary, which is a good sign that you're on the right vibe!'
